Plow recommendations

I'm doing a little research regarding plow option. I'm a city councilman in a small town (population less than 5,000) that rarely gets much snow accumulation ( Coastal Washington State) therefore our public works crew does not have snow removal equipment. It usually isn't a problem, but this last week it was after receiving 10-12" that stuck around and became quite icy. Given our infrequent snow, it makes sense to me that we would look at outfitting some of our existing trucks with plows rather that buying/storing/maintaining dedicated equipment. We have a couple 1-ton 4X4 trucks in the fleet, as well as a large bucket-lift truck.
What are you guys who plow using? I'd really like to bring some ideas with me to the next meeting. Thanks

Fisher XLS expandable plow, collapses to 9.5’ when that’s all you need, and out to 11.5’ when you want to clear a parking lot. Probably the best one I ever owned and we use them a lot in NH. It’s heavy though so the 1 ton or larger is recommended. Used to have it on my F250 and it felt like the plow was in charge lol. 3500 owns it.

We have two BOSS stainless v-plows at my facility, one on a 2500, and one on a 3500.

They’re very maneuverable and the stainless keeps them looking nice rather than the paint eventually wearing off.

We also upgraded to the LED heated headlamps which was a great decision.

For spreaders we have a BOSS VBX on both trucks:

The VBX hopper spreaders feature both pintle and auger feeds, powerful electric motors and the flexibility to spread a variety of deicing materials.

Not sure how your bidding process works, but we have to get quotes from three companies. Not necessarily go with the lowest bidder, but the best bang for the buck.

Fisher is my go to they are the best plow out there in my opinion and the reason you typically see way more of them that are old and still in service, snow ex is the second best…. Skip boss at all cost in my experience way to many break downs, every boss i have used was awful after running any of the DD brands (fisher,snowex, western)… the other big thing to consider is the dealer, you want one who stocks parts and has good customer service that can get you back going fast.

Just double checked, I do have the 8.6-11 model. Great plow for driveways like mine where I cannot afford to get too close to the edge (35’ straight down) or parking lots. Almost makes parking lots fun.

Yea they are great units i ran one for a few years and when they extend and “wing out” it works better than a V for holding snow as you can still turn it. If i was not just doing a few driveways i would buy one again in a heat beat

I think I saw a video of this plw the other day - the side wings retracted back when he wasn't using it to back drag driveways. Looked pretty slick.

I have a Western 8'6" Plow with Ultramount 2 on it, I'm pretty happy with it, but it's the first plow i've ever owned, just bought it last fall, but we had one hell of a winter last year to break it in, so far so good.

However, I went to high school with, and am pretty good friends with, a majority of the DPW guys in my town, and they recommended I get a boss plow, they swear by them, but a boss setup was a little out of my price range.

Im pretty sure he would have to retract them i have never seen one auto retract unless you mean he retracted them… they are nice plows and as always the trip edge is far better than a full trip blade
