Hadn't planned on it, but the deal was too stupid good to say no. So yesterday, I said goodbye to my 6.4 (which I loved) and the dealer delivered a new 3500 dually right to my door. He gave me so much for my trade, that I drove the 2019 for free.

Now I am back in a Cummins, and even though it is overkill for my 9000 pound bumper pull, it will expand my options in the future for a 5th wheel. Can't wait to hook up in 2 weeks and go camping!!20210901_133912.jpg20210901_133922.jpg20210901_133937.jpg

Was $67K and I got it for $59K
Dealer also gave me $4K more than I paid for my 2019
I my area of Florida, that's the best I've been able to find

That’s sweet, congrats man enjoy your new ride.

Congrats, and you got a great deal on an in-stock truck! I offered a local-ish dealer about the same % off and said “keep this in your pocket in case the truck hasn’t sold and you need a quick sale”. Was hoping to hear from them yesterday, nope. Lol! Good job!

Man, hopefully he will call you back!

Congrats!

What a bizzaro time we live in where you can get more for your 2 year old truck then you paid? I honestly don't see the logic behind the people who will eventually buy these trucks when they can get brand new for almost the same price (or slightly more)?

It is definitely crazy times!! I normally would never purchase a new truck but most lots were asking right at MSRP for used and I was able to get a brand new truck for less than a used one just by simply ordering. All I can say is that it is the instant gratification society we now live in, I want it and I want it NOW and will pay anything for it.

Yep I am in the same boat and looks like brand new is the way to go. One dealer is asking 99k for a 2020 2500 Denali, smh.

And someone will pay it or pay close to it

I mean how desperate can someone be when you can easily get a brand new one with almost all the best options if you wait for a month or two or even three.

Congrats.

Yep, crazy times.

Got a guy on a few off road forums I'm on trying to sell a $72K entry level TRX with 1600 miles on it for $98K. He says it's loaded, but no window sticker. Looking at the truck, all I see is entry level basic truck. No options I can see.

Some fool will pay it I'm sure. Just not me.

There's a Launch Edition TRX on the local FB Marketplace for $135K.

While he might be stretching it a bit, it is one of 702.

The comments from people that have no clue what it is are hilarious.

From my experience with classic cars, generally the limited editions that have something unique are the ones worth big money. The low number shelbys and such, the z06s, low number early vettes, etc. To be frank, that guy has already priced in so much of the potential upside you'd be lucky to store that in a barn for 30 years and get close to your money back.

A singular example I think is a fair comparison. In the early 90s the small "sports trucks" were becoming a thing. GM had the syclone, Ford had the lightning, etc. I just looked at numbers from BAT for recent sales of the syclone, and while they range the median price is around 25k, thats basically what it cost new 30 years ago (list $25,790) except for the fact that inflation is now 2x what it was in 1991. So a nice, low milage (sub 30k), collectors truck is selling for half MSRP.

All that's to say, it could be worth a fortune, but it probably won't be and his asking price already has all the potential growth priced in for (my guess) at least the next 30 years. Just think, if that guy manages to sell it in 30 years, and assuming inflation is the same, he is gonna have to clear over 300k at auction to just make his money back.

The only three vehicles you can buy new and hope to use as an investment are, 911, Shelby GT 500, vette, at least as I see it.

One sold at Barret for $135K so I think he's basing his price off that.

FWIW, The #001 truck sold for charity went for $410K.

I'm not saying they won't sell for that now, but longer term I don't think they will. There is a difference between current supply and demand and longer term value of the vehicle. I could be very wrong but so far the classic truck market hasn't proven anything like the classic car market.

But you're right, in the current market they are going for insane markup, from dealer to private party.
