Hey Guys, I purchased my 2024 2500 (Non HD Cummins)back in April of this year. I’ve been having issues with the check engine light coming on and getting the P2549(Regin Frequency) code now twice. Got it the first time at about 1600 miles took it to the dealer they replaced some sensors and air filter. Then about a month ago it came on again with 2600 miles on it. Got it back from the dealer and it looks like they are just throwing parts at it now. They replaced all kinds of things like DPF filter, bunch more sensors and the CAT(attached photo on what they replaced on its 2nd visit)
I’ve since driven it about 200 miles and it looks like it’s already getting ready to regen again according to the DPF gauge.
If the code shows back up and they can’t fix it I’m thinking about going a different direction with the truck. It’s my first Cummins and I’m disappointed to say the least but just seeing what others have had luck with getting this worked out on their trucks. I’ve read a ton on this and it seems to be a frequent issues, specifically with the 22&23 year models. Thanks.

How many miles on the truck and what is your oil level showing on the dipstick?

What are your driving habits like? These trucks don’t like short trips. Have you been watching your oil levels, you can get fuel in oil dilution from frequent regens.

Round trip to work and back is 30 miles. 90% of the time the truck is brought up to normal temps before I shut it down. Occasionally I have a short Home Depot trip where it may not get up to normal temps but it’s rare. Current mileage is 3065 miles. Oil levels have been normal but have not checked it since getting back from the dealer this time around.
My brother in law has a 18 2500 and about a 3 mile round trip to work. He’s never had any of these “short” trip regen issues I keep hearing about. Are these only present on the 19+ trucks?

Yup, these trucks for what ever reason are extremely sensitive in regards to their emissions systems. I DD mine and fortunately haven’t had any problems, I try to limit my short trips and luckily most of my commute to and from work is on the interstate. I also use the archoil additive and cleaner which seems to help keep my DPF clean. The key is frequent towing and or a good amount of highway time. Unfortunately some just have problems and hopefully yours is not one. Definitely keep an eye on your oil levels, have you done a UOA to check for fuel dilution? I don’t have a pre 19 truck but I haven’t seen many folks with DPF problems on those trucks.

Yeah from reading tons of posts on this I agree with you. You can do everything by the book but some of them just seem to have issues with DPF for some reason. I’ll keep my fingers crossed but I have a feeling just from looking at the DPF gauge already at almost 50% in just 200 miles I’ll have the P2549 code pop back up again.
I may look into a Lemon Law if they can’t figure it out after the 3rd time to the shop. I don’t want to go that route as I already invested a few thousands into it but I don’t want to deal with a truck I’m taking into the dealer monthly.

Are you buying Diesel that has more than 5% Bio content? I'm surprised to hear that your having frequent regens but your not seeing oil growth of any kind, those two normally go hand in hand.... I've learned that even with drive of 15 miles one way its good idea to take the truck out on the hwy for an hour or longer drive at least once every 10 --14 days, at this point not sure if a fuel additive like Archoil 6400d followed by Archoil 6500 or Hot Shot extreme followed by Hot Shot EDT will help but its can't hurt to try...
