Just wanted to share what happens to my truck over the last month or so. I ended up with 3-4 small outward dents on my tailgate and was very confused. First one had a basketball imprint right next to it so I figured my daughter got the truck with ball next to an interior brace or something that buckled the sheet metal. Then 2-3 more showed up. No idea what was causing it until I took off the top cover panel of tailgate and figured it out. There is a rolled edge brace in middle of tailgate that I would assume should have adhesive protruding throughout but doesn’t for some reason. Small pebbles get caught between interior brace and inside of rear of tailgate sheet metal… every time the tailgate is down and you step on it, it pushes that interior crossmember bracing into the outside of tailgate. If there is a rock in that little gap it then pushes that into the back of the sheet metal leaving a protruding dent in tailgate. I brushed and vacuumed that seam and filled it with some silicone to keep small rocks out. Just wanted to share so it doesn’t ruin someone else’s paint and body all because of tiny rocks. Last pic shows what I assume the whole seam should look like with factory adhesive, but doesn’t. 1st shows dents right at the shadow, you can see the ripples in it. 3rd pic shows area where small rock was. I’d pull that panel off as a preemptive measure and apply something to fill that void so it doesn’t happen
