Hi all, new here and enjoying reading through all the great information.

I'm looking at making the jump from my 1500 to a 2500 and it seems the best way to get a good deal is to order through one of the high volume dealers that are mentioned throughout the forum. This will be a completely new experience for me, as I have always bought all our vehicles from what was available on the lot or having the dealer do a new stock trade with another dealer to get pretty much what I wanted.
I'm up for the new way of doing things and understand that I'll probably have to wait a while for it to get built. But I'm looking for any advice on buying out of state and then registering back at home. For reference, I'm in eastern PA and have had conversations with Granger in IA and reached out (but not heard back yet) from Mark Dodge.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

They will take of TTL, shouldn’t be an issue. When you buy the vehicle, you’ll be set. What are you concerned about?

It's not so much that I have any concerns. It's that I dont know what I dont know.
I'm guessing that I'll have to register in PA after my drive back. And I assume at that time I'll pay the state sales tax.
Just curious if there is anything I'm missing that the people who have done this before can add.

Dealer will handle TTL (Tax, Title, and License). Your taxes and registration will be taken care of, just like if you purchased locally.

Interesting...
I'll have to check with Granger, but I thought they specifically said they will not do out of state registration or collect any taxes.

Ah, well they might not. It is up to the dealer, I’m just speaking from my experience with Mark Dodge.

Registering in state isn’t hard, depending on the state. Go to DMV or a licensing service.

At least in Illinois, you can just send in a few forms with a check and get plates in the mail.

Yeah, the taxes and tags in PA isnt difficult. We have tag places all over that notarize the forms and courier them to DOT. they also collect the state taxes.
Good to know about Mark Dodge. They are a couple hundred miles further than Granger and I'm looking forward to their quote to compare with what I already have.

Who did you contact? Should be Aaron or Sandi, anyone else is probably just trying to steal a sale.

Renae Jamieson there is legit as well! Ordered 9/9 and got my build sheet a couple of days ago. Her service and response time had been way more than adequate. I was directed to her when I initially reached out to Aaron.

I'm from CT and bought my truck at Benson in Greer SC. They took care of everything! Gave me a temp tag till my CT plates came in. They even sent me a second temp tag when my CT plates didn't come in after 30 days.

I emailed Sandi early last week. Figured I'd give it another couple days before I reach out again.

Nice! Did you get a Mark Dodge type of deal? SC is significantly closer to me than either of the other 2.

I didn't really get a killer deal, but they were the only ones that had a truck coming in that was close to what I really wanted. They treated me super nice. Picked me up at Hertz. Full tank of fuel, full DEF, totally detailed. Gave me a detail kit.

Compared to the dealer in CT that ordered my 2018 Power Wagon. That dealer treated me like ****.

Yeah, I can totally relate. There are 3 ram dealers within a 15 minute drive from me. All 3 are not exactly customer friendly for sales. This will be my 4th ram and all 4 came from dealers in central or north east PA.
I figured this time around I'd order exactly what I want and if I end up having to drive back from somewhere, it will be a fun road trip.

I sold my PW outright to a Chevy dealer near my town in CT. Then got a rental and drove to my house in KY and the next day drove to SC and back to KY. It was a beautiful trip from KY to SC.

When I was shopping for my truck I spoke with one of the large dealers out west and they wanted to collect the sales tax but not handle the registration. That was a deal breaker for me because Maryland collects the sales tax when the vehicle is registered. I ended up buying from a dealer in Kernersville NC . They handled the registration, picked me up from the airport and reimbursed me for the plane ticket. I would buy from them again.

What kind of deal did benson give you? They are here a local dealer, I checked with a Spartanburg dealer and it was MSRP to order and wait not a truck off the lot so I ordered through Mark Dodge.

Here is what I was told by Sandi at Mark Dodge when I asked about how they handle TT&L and it depends if you're paying cash vs. financing.

If you are financing, we are required by the banks to file registration and collect your taxes, your local DMV would mail you the permanent plates. The only thing you might have to do is an emissions test if it is required for your local area. Yes the truck would come with LA temp tags until you receive the plates.

If you are not financing, you can do that yourself. In fact it is easier on us if you do, but we an do it if you prefer.

Shoot Sandi an email again, I’m sure your last one just got burried in the masses.
She has been extremely responsive in my correspondences with her. I reached out on Monday, and got a response in a timely manner. Went back and forth throughout the week and locked in a deal with her on Friday. All of her responses were very thorough and timely. I am in California and will fly in to pick up the truck when it is ready. Good policy on your purchase!

I believe they took 5k off the sale price. Nicest people I've ever dealt with.
