I was wondering if anyone on here from California has had an experience ordering with Bud Clery in Washington state? I saw on the “builds” thread some people saying they were doing the same as me. What’s the regs for bringing the truck here and registering it? I ordered a 3500 HO. Not sure if that matters. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

I'm not familiar with that dealer but I am with buying out of Califunny.
Before you can register you have to have the truck weighed and get a weight certificate from the scales.
Then you go to DMV, they classify the truck based on the weight and charge you accordingly plus you pay the sales tax.
The out-of-state dealer that I have dealt with refers buyers to a California agency that helps you through the process.
Most buyers lighten the truck, including the spare tire and only 5 gals or so of fuel, before they get weighed. If over xx lbs the DMV will put you in a class that has a much higher registration fee.
You can go to DMV's website and it will tell you more including the charges for each weight category.

Thanks for the heads up, is there anything about smoging it? Or would it just be up for smog a few years after purchase?

I know Dennis Dillon in Idaho sells to people in California as does Dave Smith.

Yes smog is required along with a weight certificate. I just did it for my 2021. Ridiculous.
Was there anything you had to tell the dealer in particular to make sure the truck ordered would pass for California?

All new diesel trucks are 50 state compliant, so there should be nothing added or changed to the truck.

Good to know, thank you. I was also wondering about clearance lights if anyone from California knew. They’re illegal on SRW trucks here but no where else?

Bud Clary will sell the truck just as if you were buying in CA. You will pay CA sales tax at the time of sale.

When you get to CA you will have to smog the truck to tag it.

Bought my 2021 Bighorn out of state.
Smog certification required.
Had it weighed, and DMV used weight from MSO, which was 350# less than what scales had me at.

Actually the requirement is a DOT reg. It is required if a vehicle is over 80" in width. Anything under that is for just because, or looking cool. A 2500/3500 SRW does not require to have any (but most 3500 will come with them), a 3500 DRW requires them.

My dealer in Texas collected the CA taxes. I had to get a weight cert and a smog cert. I also had to have the DMV do a VIN inspection. I have clearance lights.

yup that is why the ford raptor has the lights in the grill and TRX in the hood or at least that is how I understand it.

Samezies except I hired a private party for the VIN verification. Came to my house and was done in 10 minutes. I didn't want to have to deal with the DMV.

Illegal where?

My 2016 2500 had cab lights from the factory. I live in SoCal.

I tied to get AAA to do it but they can't do new vehicle VIN checks. The independent/ mobile ones I called couldn't do it either. I did know of one that could but they were pretty busy. DMV was easier than expected. Didn't need an appointment. I just had to drive up to their drive-thru and get it verified. I ended up having to take a picture of the VIN with my phone cuz the DMV inspector wasn't tall enough to see it. LOL He was a cool guy we chatted about our various Mopar vehicles.
