I posted in an oil thread with no responses. Maybe a new thread with draw some useful input. What oil PSI is normal range for a 6.4? My truck ran around 52 most of the time for the first 3500 miles. My oil level was halfway up the safe level. I did oil change and now oil is full. PSI running 55/56 now. Does PSI go up as oil volume increases? It seems that it would, but I am ignorant on exactly how oil pressure works as a measure related to oil volume. Anyone have any expertise on the topic?

Thicker oil is more difficult to bypass and can cause higher pressures, don’t think that more but within proper levels can. Too much will foam, leak at the crank, foul plugs etc…

Are you using an OEM filter? Pressure shouldn't go up with volume, so long as you are within spec on volume. Other factors generally effect pressure, like filter media type.

Either way, a couple PSI isn't much to worry about as long as it's over 50.

Thanks for responding. This got a lot less feedback than I expected based on other threads. Yes, it is an OEM Mopar filter. The PSI ran 55/56 for the first day, has dropped back down to the same 52 PSI as before now once it has warmed up. It may have always done that, I was not watching the reading like this until I changed the oil.
