Not sure if this should go here or powertrains….

Any idea where this leak could be originating?

Pan looks clean, oil filter looks clean as well.

There is a supply line above the oil filter that has a little oil/dirt on it but looks good otherwise. No other traces of oil on front of motor from top or underneath.

24’ 3500, Any help is appreciated!

Thanks

Yeah will do thanks.

Talking to a tech at work and he thinks there could be something wrong with the motor causing the crank to wobble to take out the seal if that is indeed the case. Only 5k miles on her.

Haven’t taken anything off for a closer look, I’ll leave that to the dealer.

I was doing my oil change last week and noticed what looks like oil coming from the bell housing and running down the back of the pan. My first though was also rear main seal. I have a 2019 with roughly 38k on it, and my warranty goes out at the end of January. So it looks like I'll be bringing her in for one last warranty battle with the dealer, not looking forward to it.

@H3LZSN1P3R just curious what does a rear main seal replacement entail? That'll give me an idea of how much a fight the dealer is going to put up, and how long I'll be without the truck. I know for sure the trans is gonna have to be moved out of the way, but beyond that I don't know what else is involved.

Got under my truck today while swapping out my 37's for smaller snow/plowing tires and took a peak at my rear main seal. I was contemplating letting it ride since I don't daily drive the truck anymore and I really don't want another BS warranty battle with a stealership, but it looks worse than I remember it so I'm gonna pick that fight with the dealership and hopefully get it taken care of before my warranty is up at the end of February.

It may not be the rear main. They would need to pull the diaper and the inspection plate. If it is the rear main they are gonna need to pull the transfer case/ transmission/ flywheel to do the seal. Its worth the fight if its the rear main as its a labour costly service out of pocket

Could be the back of the valve cover or other plugs that are on the back of the engine.
Hmm, I did notice oil residue higher on the back of the motor, but I didn't really investigate much further.

I was told it’s a rust preventitive coming off the flex plate and not a cause for concern. There was a service bulletin on it I guess.

They cleaned it all up and sent me on my way. I’m keeping and eye on it though.

That makes no sense as there should not be any “antisieze” there nor would it look like diesel oil.

I do remember reading about that TSB in a different thread, but that's definitely not what i have going on lol

Sorry rust preventative on the flex plate. But yeah it was still leaking what looked like oil.

Dropped the truck off at the dealer couple days ago, they just got a chance to look at it, and as of right now, early diagnosis is the valve cover. So, Gold Star for @H3LZSN1P3R you earned it.

your did it.jpg

As a side note they offered to do the CCV filter for just the cost of the filter @ $299 since the labor will be covered under warranty, I told them to do it.

They kinda got ya on the ccv filter, for oem it’s a $100 part and about 10 min job and isn’t due til 75k. Sorry to be a Debbie downer.

Oof, that's what I get for making an impulsive decision on the spot without doing my homework. They called me while I was out doing deliveries today in my 5500. I thought I remembered looking up the ccv and seeing they were very expensive, but it looks like they vary wildly from $35 for knockoffs to $290 full list from Mopar.

The fleetguard option is oem, I think mopar probably reboxes them and double the price.
