Keep getting coupon offers from RAM for 3 premium synthetic oil changes for $145 for my 6.4 hemi. After reading the fine print, the service includes "up to 5 qts". Called my dealer and she explained that they charged $15 each for the extra 2 qts, so I have to add another $30 on top of the $48. I asked what the regular charge is for an oil change and she told me it was $82. Wow, a $4 savings - all sounds a little fishy to me. When she asked what motor I had and I replied the 6.4, she asked if that was gas or diesel. After a short hesitation, I told her that she should know that and that I'll be using another dealer. Wow, just wow.

$78 isn’t bad for oil change on the 6.4. It’s about $70 to buy 7qts and a filter online.

that said, I don’t have time to deal with dealerships ********, and going when they are open is a headache... plus with having to drive to the dealership and back, it takes me less time to just do it myself and at least I know it was done right.

I buy my Pennzoil Platinum oil and filter from Advance Auto Parts and then pay my local Quiky Lube $20 to change the oil. By getting it this way I save about 20-30 from having to pay either my dealer or for the quiky lube synthetic price and know exactly what oil I am getting and using a better filter then they do.

The owner likes it because it’s a cash transaction that always goes in his pocket and not the register.

Still a decent deal for the oil change at the dealer.

I used to buy the prepaid oil changes from my closest dealer and they were a decent deal but I won't be doing that again because they take about 1.5-2 hours for their "express" oil change.

I get coupons from the Ram dealer in Yuma City Ca for an oil change on the 6.7 for $79.99 using 10w30.
that’s about what I buy the oil and filters for online. Great price but Ill continue to do it myself so I know it’s done right.

Update on my original post. Was talking with a friend who also has a '20 RAM hemi. He told me he just got his oil changed at the same dealer and it ran him about $120. He was a little curious so we called the dealership back and talked with another service writer. He suspects that I actually talked with the cashier and she had relayed erroneous info. He confirmed that an oil change was actually right at $120 without a coupon. With coupon, $78. (Coupon value @ $48, plus $15 for an extra 2 quarts ($7.50 ea), plus tax and fees. Much better and this dealership uses the Pennzoil. I was set to just do it myself but as Eatonpcat said, that's really not a bad deal so I'll let them do it. By the way, I've had my truck for a year now with 4,500 miles and as far as I can tell per the dipstick it hasn't used any oil. By dipstick, I mean the engine one, not the person at the dealership.
