Off Road Package vs Air Suspension

Curious what people think about the "Off-Road Package" on a Limited 2500 CC (or possibly Mega) versus getting the "Automatic Level Rear Air Suspension" option? I won't be towing much, or have much payload, I'm much more interested in the smoothest possible ride when the truck is unloaded (and no, I'm not getting a 1500 so don't go there). So what say you, HDRam'ers... should I get the off road package or the rear air suspension for a smoother ride?

Okay, now that we have that question out there, let's make it a bit more complicated and ask what the off road capabilities are if I were to go with the rear air suspension? Does it change much?

I have the off-road pkg with the Billesteins. No complaints by me. Currently I don't tow anything that requires the air bags so that's just something else that could break since I don't need them.

I may be very wrong here but doesn't the air suspension only supplement when there is a load in or on the truck?

Happy with the off road package here. It is a truck, rides like a truck and does truck stuff.

On the 2500s the air ride does complicate things for offroad use. The air bags replace the coil springs in the rear. Both Carli and Thuren have solutions if you choose to lift it later. I would go with the offroad package for the skid plates and Hill decent and the shocks if those were the two choices. I went with neither since I knew I was going to replace all the suspension Carli. Also, if you have AlfaOBD Hill Descent can be added to a truck without the offroad package by replacing 4x4 panel with one that has the switch. Only $55 dollars if you have a diesel. Over $200 for a gasser.

I have a 2500 Mega with the Air Suspension. The ride is really good for an HD Truck. However the purpose for me getting the Air Suspension was that I tow. It makes it a lot easier to hitch and keep everything level automatically. If your main concern is ride quality and payload is not a consideration, check out the Power Wagon. It will give you the best ride of all the HD's bar none and is the most off road worthy truck of the bunch. This year has the 75th anniversary package which makes it almost as nice as a Limited for the interior. Good Luck.

I say go Off-Road package, but I maybe bias since I have that on my 2500CTD. Airbags can be added later if you do change your mind and get a camper or heavy trailer.
