Oem stock wheel (not spare wheel) for spare?

Hello PW world!
I am thinking about replacing the stock 33’s with a 285/75 soon, which got me thinking about my spare. If possible, I like my spare to match for obvious reasons. Ideally, however, I would like to get on a 5 wheel rotation, rather than having $400 of rubber sitting there until it gets too old to use. Anyone out there on a 5 tire rotation with their spare? If I can pick up a matching stock oem wheel on ebay or something, I am assuming it would fir no problems? Anyone doing this?

The problem with a matching spare on our trucks is that the spare carrier holds it face down, so the bracket will be pressing against the face of the wheel, tearing the finish up.

Thank you, that is useful into to know. I would like to have a matching spare. Not sure what a good solution is. I'm not sure I want a rear tire mount, just another thing to have to deal with that will get in the way of the back of the truck. I know the 37" guys out there have to run a spare on the back. Just deal with the 33" spare? 34" is not much of a difference? I understand it could run for a short time on the front because it does not have a front slip differential.

Another option is an inside the bed mount, but that definitely takes up some cargo space.

Yep, that is a no go for me. Bed space is precious. If the spare tire space was going to be used up in a useful way, I would consider getting a back mounted spare tire holder. Maybe get a forward mount? But then you kill your approach angle and might get in the way of the winch. Right now I am thinking I will just find a cheap used but ok shape 285/75r17 tire somewhere and use it for the spare. I don't mind getting a 5th tire and rotating it if makes sense, but it seems silly to spend $380-400 for a spare that will most likely never see the light of day.

Put rubber bumpers on the spare tire mount that will hit the tire not the wheel so the wheel wont be all scratched up

This should also help with the galling that would result from having a steel plate on the aluminum rim.

I‘ve actually got an OEM Power Wagon wheel with a Nitto Ridge Grappler 315/70R17 neatly tucked in the stock spare position plus a dust cover to keep the road dirt off the spare wheel. Cut up some heavy duty rubber “barn mat” to protect the wheel from being scratched by the retractable mount. Couldn’t be happier and just like on the Jeep the 5 tire rotation made the initial investment well worth it. Not to mention having a same size spare I can put directly on the rear axle without worry. Added a pic of the extra rim (new take off) i picked up on eBay for $150 which is now on the right rear. Hope this helps.

I just ordered 5 maxxis razr 35x11.5 tires. Still have not found a single all black stock wheel. I’ll keep looking but I’m not holding my breath. At least i have a full sized tire to match.

If you do find one, please share. I'm looking to do the same, and also have the all black wheels.

I ended up getting an oem aftermarket wheel, same specs but not mopar. I can’t tell the difference at all.

Are there any issues with TPMS sensors when including a fifth / spare into the rotational mix? I understand the TPMS positions are re-learned upon rotation (after driving a short distance) and I adjust my tire pressures to my optimal front/rear PSI when rotating front to rear. I haven't searched the forum yet - just came across this thread and decided to ask since it seems relevant here. Also - my factory steel spare did NOT have a TPMS in it and I picked up an OEM alloy wheel - so before I spend money on TPMS for the spare, I was hoping to get some info from someone who has done it. My bigger question is - if I install a TPMS in the spare - does it simply stay dormant while in the spare position and not rotating (meaning rotating while in use)?

Your assumptions are correct.

The system learns the sensors when you rotate tires, even if you swap a different/spare tire in.

I have similar questions. My weird non -original spare Had a tpm sensor so i moved it into the eom aluminum spare i just got. If no one answers i will let you know when i rotate tires the first time.
