OEM LED High Beam Quit Working

Anybody had one of their LED high or low beams stop working? I retrofitted my bighorn with the OEM reflector LED housing from RetroShop. Not sure yet if it's the LED driver or the LED in the housing.

Really sucks thinking about taking the whole front end apart again to troubleshoot or replace it, I just got them in there a few weeks ago

I would remove the retroshop harness, and plug the headlights directly into the factory headlight connectors on the truck. Then use AlfaOBD to enable the LED lighting features like they are supposed to be for factory equipped LED reflector headlights. The resistors on the adapter harness just introduce another point of failure.

I was thinking they used a different connector, but I will definitely look into this. I'm not missing any necessary OEM hardware to make them work?

Nope. You can straight up plug them right in, and program the BCM with AlfaOBD like factory equipped, and they will work like factory. This is the method that most people use with these lights.
I can’t say for sure that’s your issue, but it eliminates the resistors on the adapter harness being the cause, and eliminates you having to go back and forth with retroshop sending a new one and remove/replacing it.

Jimmy07 is correct, take his advice.
My case was on my 2016 1500 Eco, but the system is basically the same.
When I changed to Baja Designs LED fogs, I had intermittent lights on/off and blinking problems. Every time it was a resistor issue. I did the Alfa thing, removed the resistors, and they have been working perfect over the last 5 years.

Thanks guys. AlfaOBD paraphernalia ordered. Now I can look forward to taking the front end apart again!

UPDATE:

Took everything back apart, tested the problem light with the other adapter pack- worked fine. So - removed both adapters, changed a handful of settings in AlfaOBD and everything seems to be working as intended. Cannot recommend using the LED adapters. Hopefully I don't have to touch these again.

What year is your truck ? I’m about to do the same thing to my 21. I’ve got the Oem headlights and taillights and the led adaptors all sitting aside here waiting to be put on. Your recommending to just change settings in the ALFAobd ? Versus using the adaptors?

there's no need for the adapters and using them introduces a failure point, not to mention aftermarket led housings for these trucks aren't the highest quality.

alFa is the way to go.

Will the alfa obd read a 2021? Or only up to 2019 ?

Thank you. Also do I need a by pass cable ? I’m doing some research and people are saying something about a by pass cable to make it work with the alfaobd

yes. need a cable. kaodtech is the one to get. the website may say out of stock, but they're built as ordered.

Will echo with the other posts here, don't waste the time with the adapters. Program them in and don't have to do the job twice like I did. KoadTech bypass is simple to install and the programming wasn't bad. You also don't have to get the expensive OBDLink Bluetooth model everybody gets. I got the wired USB version (EX). I prefer wired connections while doing programming.

How did you wire your bypass cable? I have 2022 ram 2500

I just followed the instructions on Koadtech's website. They color code the two wires and one goes into each connecting block behind the dash kick panel. It's really easy, just be careful with the connecting blocks and removing the connectors if you decide to remove it. I put mine in semi permanently.
