New truck dilemma.....

I recently ordered and obtained a 2024 Laramie 3500 with all the towing technology packages so I have the wired tow mode camera, the trailer surround camera and the cameras in the mirror which show down the side of my truck and trailer on the 12" screen when I am turning and I have come to really appreciate those things. However, I recently purchased a new toy hauler 5th wheel and now I realize I need a DRW truck because of the weight of the trailer. It has a 22K max weight and a pin weight of around 3500 lbs. According to the info on my current truck my max cargo weight is 3800 lbs so obviously that is an issue.

The dealer found a truck that very closely matches what I already have but with the DRW. However, it does NOT have Tow Technology Plus Group or Trailer Surround-View Camera System which my current truck has. It DOES have Tow Technology Group and Tow Mode Digital Rear View Mirror Package. My question is, since I still have all the trailer surround cameras that I haven't installed yet, do you think they would still work with the new truck? Perhaps the trailer surround would just need to be activated in the software? Also, I really like having those cameras in the mirror that show in the 12" display when I am turning as well as show in the rear view mirror as a 3 way split screen. Would the combination of Tow Technology Group and Tow Mode Digital Rear View Mirror Package still give me that? About the only thing I think the Tow Technology Plus Group adds is the dial to help with steering a trailer while backing which I don't ever use anyway since I know how to back a trailer. About the only other thing this truck doesn't have which my current truck has is the trailer TPMS system but I guess I can live without that.

My other option is to wait until January or so and order a 2025 model.

2025 will have a new engine and trans.

Just saying.
That's another dilemma. I don't know what new things will be available with the 2025 and if it is worth it to wait. I figure if they open up ordering in January I might get it in April as the last one I ordered took right at 3 months.

I believe without the tow tech group (steering) you only get DRVM 2.0 which doesn't have the split view mirror (DRVM 3.0).

That said, I believe it can be retrofitted.

Same goes for the trailer surround view.

@Jimmy07 would have the ultimate correct details on this stuff.

Hmmm,
If it doesn't have the mirror that can do the split screen does that also mean it doesn't have the cameras installed that give those views? That might be a deal breaker for me and force me to wait until I can order a 2025.

I think after 2023 all trucks came with the 3.0 rear view mirror so it is capable but that isn't the problem.

Without the towing technology package your towing mirrors won't have the camera built in above the light facing rearward, so no split screen on the rear view is possible. From what I've read no one has added this after the fact.

As for the 360 trailer camera that can be added after the fact. I recently completed my install of the 360 trailer surround and wired tow mode camera.
