Ok, I tried to search but found nothing. Picking up my new truck Tuesday. The dealer is 45 miles from home & it’s all highway there & back. So how are ya’ll drivin your new Diesel home? Any worries about driving highway speeds on a new truck? She only has 10 miles on her right now.

Thanks,
Dave…

Thanks for that. I found this info but was wondering if anyone is doing anything different. I biggest concern is we are picking up our new 5th-wheel on the 11th. That’s 7 1/2 away & I know after the 1st 500 miles, it’s ok to tow. But don’t go over 50MPH. That’s gonna be a tough drive home!

Drive it like you stole it.

If you read that blurb...it likes loaded operation.

It's all about wearing in the rear end ring gear.

95% of the buyers tow with these things right off.

Just run it. Vary your speed, don't hesitate to make frequent stops during that first tow just to let the gears go through heat/cool cycles.

The Cummins engine will "finish" quicker with a load. These things need to be worked hard.

Right out of the Owners Manual on towing the 1st 500 miles. It will get used under-load, the camper is 43’ & 19,000lbs. So not too bad of a setup!

I hooked onto my 5th wheel at less than 100 miles. I didn't try to see how hard I could run it but I certainly didn't drive 50mph either. Just took it easy and didn't hot rod it. No problems.

my suggestion, stick with a local county road or us route the speed limits are typically lower and more forgiving of the 50mph speed. Also check you rearview if you have a long line, pull over and then resume. that will be my plan on the break-in cycle.

I wouldn't worry too much about loading the drivetrain under 500 miles, the rear axle is probably the most likely to get damaged if you towed heavy right from the start. Cylinder pressure is your friend when breaking these in, just don't drive like a grandma and idle excessively during the break in
