I have always admired RAM truck from a distance. However, now that I'm a family man it's time to get that new bundle of joy. I'm currently hunting for a new or used RAM limited 2500 6.7L fully loaded, so until then I'm not yet apart of the family, kind of like that little brother that would always follow his big bro/sis around.

Thanks,

Welcome. You do understand the 2500 diesel has a pitiful payload? If you do so now or ever think you'll pull a fiver, you should be considering the 3500.

Speaking from experience, I got a "fully loaded" Limited but opted out of the sunroof. Too many issues to deal with on them IMHO.

^ This. Gobs more capacity and capability for very nearly the same price when dealing with the high end trucks. Welcome to the HD club.

Yup, the Cummins is a big ol' chunk of iron... errrr compacted graphite iron... so 3500 SRW is the way to go, plus it opens the door to the HO/Aisin.

The payload isn't really that important to me at the moment, however, I'm sure that comment will bite me right in the rear later on. I admit I do want the HO, but I'm not a huge fan of leaf springs when it comes to off road. So now I'm a smidge torn. I will do some more research and let you guys know where I fall or if I have a few more questions before pulling the trigger.

Thanks,

Just guessing, but I don't think you would like the Aisin trans offroad.

If you are looking at a Power Wagon, they do not make good fifth wheel haulers. I know there are those that will challenge that, but there are just as many posting in the RV forums of the issues they are having. Because the coils are further inboard, and they have soft sidewall (factory) tires they lose some stability and resistance to sway.

Which begs the question, does your intended use warrant a diesel? Perhaps you should consider a Hemi 2500? You didn't give any additional details on what you're towing.

At the moment I'm thinking the heaviest weight I will pull would be my wife's Subaru in the next year or two when we relocate to Georgia. Other than that there's a 5k lbs camper that I'm looking at, I don't plan on going rock crawling just taking the family on a camping trip every few months. I'm honestly leaning towards the 2500, if I find myself in the situation where the payload is more than the weight recommend by RAM I guessing I could just load it all on a open trailer. If I'm wrong please correct me, I'm a total noob on trucks. I coming from the racing world, I miss my 370z, I had to give up for my pregnant wife back in 2016, when we were poor and couldn't afford two cars LOL. Now life is a complete 180 and I'm getting a RAM, Oh baby lol...

PS.
We plan on having a small place in GA around 100+ acres of land with some animals nothing major.

100 acres is a nice spread. I would go for the 3500. I got a 2500 and I Do miss the payload. I have an older 3500, but I prefer to drive the newer 2500.

Trailers are the way to haul everything imho. I try to never put anything sharp or heavy in my box. That’s why they have hitches on the back and in the bed.
