I just bought a 2022 Ram 3500 Dually with 20k miles. The previous owner told me he had an unfixable nail in a tire the other day and had to replace one of the tires. The tire shop said it wasn't a problem. They used a new tire and the spare to put 2 new tires on the INSIDE rears.

I measured thread everywhere and the 2 front and 2 OUTSIDE rear tires are around 6/32". The 2 INSIDE rear tires are 13/32".

I know mismatching in certain AWD cars could lead to premature wear on truck parts. Since it's a dually (wheels locked together), the 4x4 is basically never used, and the 2 sides are the same..... I figured it's probably "fine" and will just lead to faster wear on the inside one till it matches the rest. That's mostly OK since I would want to change from the OEM Nexens anyways when the others wear out.

I just want to make sure it's not wearing the truck itself!

IMO they should have put the 2 new tires on the front end not the rear inside .

Should have changed all 6 if the other tires are that low on tread.

It happened as he was already selling but not sold yet... I also wouldn't want to buy 6 new tires for a car I'm selling.

I'm not too upset about it though as I've read nothing but bad things about the OEM Nexes tires and am looking forward to changing them to Toyo's or Nitto's when these wear out.

I just want to make sure it is "safe" for the truck in the meantime.

I get that im just meaning most bigger tire shops wont just change one or 2 tires on a 4wd vehicle.
