New Ram owner. Transmission concern

HO, you gotta quote for us to know who you're directing your question to.

Me?

Well, I could think of a few more reasons:
1000 lb-ft vs 600
EPA sucks
9000 curb wt vs 7900
EPA sucks
35" tires (though I was on 33's with 4.10 gears before)
EPA sucks
Speedo was OFF so I was hauling ass with 16K in tow
EPA sucks
Engine wear in
You hit on almost all of them except for the one main one 373 gears so engine is not rolling along in it's sweet spot at 80 anymore . 1900 RPM' s kinda high! And yes, EPA does suck

And you still can't wipe the smile off of my face I don't care what kind of mileage it gets

LOL, I don't roll 80 unless I REALLY need to get around someone in a hurry.

My RPM's aren't that high unless it drops to 5th.

Mine feels like it is either flooding of de-fueling when I am accelerating. It goes, and definite power, but frustrating at times for me. Next week will be the first time I will tow after getting the VB6 and the tranny update, so hopefully it will be better. Towing prior to the updates, coming down a hill, when the EB cuts out, and the tranny shift up in gear, it is a neck jerking shift. Not nice.

Pulling a bumper pull 10K lb. toy hauler, I was getting 10 mpg.

Does the Aisin keep a pretty high pressure to prevent slipping? My brother had a built transmission in his 3rd gen, and it slammed through the gears pretty damn hard, but man does it take a ton of abuse and keep on ticking.

10/4 driver on the epa sucks . If you stay on 80 like I do then you catch em and pass em in a hurry. My wife thinks I'm crazy when i tell her the heavier it is and the faster i go, the better i drive. If i go slow with just the truck , i ain't worth a flip

I'm talking about 80 when not pulling. I try to stay around 70 or less when towing, and it seems to be a good RPM for that.
I think that's one of the reasons they raised the tow ratings is the 3.73's. I noticed the 20 inchers, sorry, you're not gonna like
the price of replacement tires!   Around $100 more each! And I know, no choice with Limited. I was lucky to find a Laramie
level 2 without them! Gonna get 295's when replacing. Haven't had recall done yet, trans behaves most of the time, never had any of these slam shifts
that you all talk about, so who knows. I'm guessing these are growing pains with new HO engine maybe? Getting 17-18 empty, 8-10 loaded so far. MPG
gauge is kinda optimistic,10%? or so, not too happy bout that, but still grinnin ear to ear most of the time!

The last TCM update for my Aisin reduced some of the wacky behavior, and made it easier to drive around the ridiculous 2-1 downshift I was getting. However, it made the 2-3 upshift shuddering much, much worse when pulling my toy hauler. It shudders and bucks to the point I have to back out of it. You can feel the driveline straining in its mounts. Pretty pathetic.
Have you had the latest TCM update? The way I eliminated most of the 2-3 upshift bucking, towing heavy, was to floor it until after the shift, have you tried that yet? I did get the latest update , just can't get to 5ver to find out if its going to shift better.

I have not pulled the toy hauler to try more throttle. My natural reaction when something that seems destructive is happening is to back out of it. I am pretty certain I have the latest TCM flash.

Roger.

I replaced the stock tires at around the 500 mile mark so I've already felt that pain. It was lessened by selling the 4 factory tires for $500. Still trying to sell the spare because I upsized that to match as well...

To be clear, you should be at full throttle, before the 2-3 upshift. I don't remember if I tried it with T/H off, did you try that?

I did try it without T/H and it was less harsh, but not zero.

Don't forget DPF and EGR. Those 2 things are some of the biggest mileage killers on these trucks. My '05 2500, with compound turbos and all the go fast parts and built trans, I could get 22 mpg on the freeway at 70, hand calculated. I had removed the cat convertor on it. It was the only emissions equipment it had.
