New Owner Needs Fiver Advice

It will be interesting to see what happens once a lot of those new Chevy and Ford 2500 get delivered in states that have significantly higher registration and taxes for GVWRs of over 10k. My state isn't one of those but there are quite a few.

A lot of guys bought 2500s over 3500s just for that reason. Now they don't even have the option.

They do have the option. On the new Chevy's, it is an option on getting the higher weight. Most of the line is max 10K lbs. , only certain versions have the higher weight, but not sure on whats what with it. My last Chevy 3/4 ton was listed as 9,500 lbs, but had the 10K lb option, which I am sure was just a different weight sticker.

Most people buy off of the lot and never look at the sticker. When that bill comes in, it'll be shocker.

Yep, just like the F250 you can get the camper package, which upgrades the axle and the springs. Which makes it a 350 virtually, but has a 10k rating "sticker". That 10k rating is just a class rating and not an actually indication of the capability of the truck, that is usually represented by the Rawr and Fawr and that just indicates what is the weakest link in that section of the truck. Also, you can register a 3/4 ton with a higher gvwr, at your commercial dmv. At least in my state you can.

Anxious to see the results.
So I went to the Cat Scale today and here it is.

I took the rig to the scale today. Numbers are real close to max payload of 2917#
This image is the gross weight of truck and RV 17580#IMG_20200126_145614732.jpg

This image is just the truck with the hitch, prep bracket and full of gas. I wasn't in the truck for both weighs.

How i figured this the 5th wheel 9,980lb with a pin weight of 1,940lb
So at a GVWR of 10,000lbs and a truck weight of 7,600 lbs I have 2400lbs to play with, minus the 1,940lbs pin weight that leaves 460lbs for passengers and/or fire wood. This is if I figured everything correctly.

Now because my fresh water tank is behind the axles of the 5th wheel I could offset the pin weight with some water. The GVWR of the RV is 10,880lbs and the towing capacity of the truck is 14,417 lbs. I'll play with these numbers when it warms up here in Michigan.
