Hey folks, I had a 19' 1500DT, loved it, daughter got hit and it's gone. Looking at getting a 2500, most likely a diesel. The question I have is (I'll be buying used), for someone using the truck as a daily commuter 3-4 days a week (55 miles each way, and traffic), and then occasionally for family trips with the boat or a trailer, is the 5th gen worth the premium over the 4th gen? Is it really that much better? Thanks to all!

Is there a 5th generation? I don't really keep up with this sort of thing very well, but I do feel my '23 embodies all that is the best Ram has to offer in any year thus far.
You might want to reconsider the diesel though. It's a lot more maintenance than a gasser, especially if you don't actually need it to pull heavy stuff.

Sorry, 4.5th gen. I had the 2019 1500, and they call it a 5th gen

Just keep in mind that most used diesels will be out of the emissions warranty @ 50K miles. My used 2022 with 70K, does’t do any passive regens unless it’s hooked up to a loaded trailer. Automatic regens happen about 5-6 hours with no load and that’s with using Archoil fuel treatment. The emissions system on these trucks are happy when they’re pulling a load!
