Good morning,
Once upon a time I had an F150 (2.7/10-speed/4wd)...I LOVED that truck. It made cool turbo sounds, towed my minis all over the country with relative ease, all the features...it was my baby. Then one day on the way to work the 10-speed died. No surging, not stalling, no bucking, no LIGHTS...just died. Trans died and took the transfer case with it. The relationship was never the same after that, and I was looking for a new tow/daily. I bought a VW Tiguan for a daily/commuter....GREAT car btw...just wasn't gonna do much with a car hauler.
So the adventures began...
I got a cheap 7.3 F350 (CC long bed)...It started giving me old diesel problems, so I rented a 23 HEMI Ram 2500 to tow one of my trucks to a show. FELL IN LOVE!!! It ate up the climbs on I-81 and was like riding on a cloud. Sold the diesel....
Then
Picked up an OBS 94 F350 Dually (460 gas/auto) just looked mean...slammed 5/5 (needs paint) but was just a cool cruiser and decent beast of burden. Then it blew a driveshaft, taking out 2 gas tanks during a climb on I-81 (I may need to stay off 81). I was towing my bagged S10 with a golf cart in the bed.
That was my last straw...I needed to quit faking the funk and get a legit truck and move on with my life. Enter Laverne...6.4/4WD/Tradesman. Everything I need, nothing I don't. We're honeymooning now, but I do want to reverse level her, drop in a sub or 4, and tint the windows...nothing too crazy.
I don't tow super heavy, but I enjoy the confidence of the 3/4-ton gives on the mountains that I can't avoid escaping Northern Virginia (going west at least). I hit minitruck shows throughout the year with one of the three (and counting) I have in the collection.
This group seems very knowledgeable so I will definitely enjoy browsing.
