Hello and thanks you for allowing me to join.
I am in the marker for my 2nd Ram Truck. My first was a 2015 1500 Bighorn and I loved it. I traded it away a few months ago for a F350 (6.4 Powerstroke)
One of the worst ideas I have ever had, but it was because my TT was just a bit much for the 1500,and in advance of going to a larger 5th Wheel.

After taking a hard look at my daily driving and towing needs, I think a 2500 with the 6.4 Hemi and a 4.10 rear end will suit my needs.
I am a Texas Native, but have retired to Colorado and live at the base of the Front Range. My current TT is about 8500 pounds, and I expect my 5th Wheel not exceed 12k. Most of my towing will be within 3 hours of home and up only 1 pretty easy to climb pass Ute Pass 9100 ft and 5.5% grade. Maybe 1 time a year I will have to cross one of the larger passes like Ike or Wolf Creek which hit 7+%.

I think the main reason to go back to a gasser is my daily commute to work is less than 6 miles, and if I put more than 15 miles on my truck a day, I was busy.
Such is the life of a retired Army vet that was told to get a job by his wife....lol

Thanks again
McG

Welcome and thanks for your service... Gonna miss the diesel at the 7+% grade
the F350 is turning into a money pit, and she left me, my TT and my family stranded at 4 Corners, nad was in the shop 3 weeks to get fixed in a little town just in CO.....not trying to do that again

Welcome.

The 2500 gasser would have zero issues with that TT, but if you have plans to potentially upgrade later, you may want to take some time to decide if a 3500 would be a better option in preparation for that day. If not, go for it.

I freaked for a second when you said, “she left me......” then I saw the stranded part! LOL!

The gasser will be much happier doing the short daily than the diesel with all the government crap that is for sure! Sounds like you’re plan is solid. Welcome and enjoy.

N/A gas ---at altitude? no thanks.. like mentioned above you are going to miss the diesel immediately when you climb any sort of hill.

The 21 cummins trucks are one hell of a progression of the old 5.9 ISB... cummins went back to the cp3 injection pump and there are reports of hot shot'ers with hundreds of thousands of miles on the current version of this motor with emissions systems in tact, fully functioning.

I doubt you'd have issues with the Ram diesel option, but the short commute is also a point well taken! Under 20 miles a day is a hell of a case for the gas motor, i agree.

Tough decisions my friend!
