New and looking to replace my 2016 1500.

Hello been in my 2016 express 1500 for 6 years now and it is about time to upgrade to a 2500. I'm sticking to gas as it will be my DD and as a Firefighter married to a Teacher I cannot fathom the repair costs or maintenance of a diesel. I currently tow a 7500lbs Travel trailer which is within the limits of my 1500, but Id like more wiggle room and the option to upgrade one day(10k max). Other than the TT I do alot of hauling in the bed and camping. I am currently looking at alot of 2018 to 2021s but worry about the 6 speed coming from an 8 speed. But finding a 2018 with low mileage and ALL the options I want is pretty easy, while 2019+ with the ONE option I absolutely want (sunroof) is near impossible to find anywhere near my price range.

Anyways hope to be an HD owner soon as I originally wanted/needed one 6 years ago when bought my 1500. May be soon might be a year or so from now. Either way happy to be here

The sunroof thing is funny. I’ve passed on vehicles with them because the sun is so freaking strong here. Where are you at?

I am in Maryland so we get 4 or so months of Florida summer and the rest is up in the air. Just as likely to have 80f or 20f during the winter it seems. I LOVE the option and sadly I havent had it in 15 years and everytime i get in the wifes car (she has a sunroof AND panel in the back!) I get incredibly jealous! Add in that I keep my trucks for 5+ years and this one will have to make it double digits makes it hard to pass on. Since a gasser 2500 will have all the capability we will need i won't have the bargaining chips i do with the 1500 when the time comes and the CFO err wife has to be convinced lol.

Aside from options I do worry about the longevity of the 6 speed if I settle for a 4.10 2018... I know the ZF can do the job and work great for 120k HARD miles and works like a champ.

My 1st 3 cars had sunroof / moonroof. Never used them (noisy and hot and let the cool air out) and one was leaking every now and then so more cons than pros in owing a vehicle with one.
Ordered my 1 ton Limited without a Sunroof as again, would never use it, also this truck was purchased to haul a slide in truck camper and camper's overhang would just block it anyways. And the best thing - no leaks!

I have had quite a few sunroofs in my day but it has been quite a while since I have had one. I used them all the time...any chance I got lol. Never any leaks. Thats not to say it doesnt happen and I def see the sun issue, but I also see the pros (for me) outwiegh the possible cons. Sadly a sunroof in these trucks forces other options i just dont need or worse off are unaffordable. Ill be 100% honest if my express 1500 with no options save for 4x4, carpet and cloth seats had nothing more than a sunroof id be happy as a pig in mud! Tech and bells and whistles are great and all but dont mean much to me (as I have never had them).

Eitherway its a big option for me, but if push comes to shove when I'm buying and it is still not viable i will end up with my 3rd non-sunroofed vehicle. It will be sad, but such is life.
