I haven't posted in a bit, things were going pretty good since I bought my 2021 PW. Unfortunately yesterday **** happens. I just left my house to make a weekly trip, everything seemed normal. As soon as I pulled out into traffic I noticed the truck sounded rough, it sounded like I was driving on a gravel road instead of a multi lane street. About a mile down the street, it didn't get better so I pulled over, suddenly I got a check engine light and a red ETC warning light. I shut down the engine and tried to figure out what was happening. Within a couple of minutes I decided to try to restart the truck, nothing. I had dash, radio but no ignition. It would crank at first but if I put it into drive it would stall. After a couple of tries it wouldn't even crank. Eventually I gave up. I called AAA and once a tow truck showed up we couldn't get her into neutral. We had to use the manual release to get her into neutral. Being Saturday, the dealership was open, but they didn't have anyone in who could work on her. So as of now she sits at the dealership waiting for a tech to figure out the issue. I've only had her for five months and haven't had any issues with her. Any thoughts on this?

Without codes or basic visual checks of under hood items it’s gonna be hard to delve anything from my keyboard

Mileage? Last oil change? Anything leaking? Any recent work done?

Did you check to make sure the battery terminals were clean and had good contact. Also check the fuses.

I don't want to hear that.
Lol sorry man just was trying to lighten it up. Luckily under warranty and endive aren't so much the back order issue. They and you were able to safely get off the road with no issue

I think I am mostly disappointed to have this happen. The cost of these vehicles, just to have it fail during a family trip really doesn't inspire confidence in the truck.

Yours is the exception and not the rule.

I'm sure the dealer will figure it out and hopefully, you can put this behind you quickly. I'm guessing transmission and if true then they will just swap in a whole new trans. Dealers are not authorized to open up and service the ZF8's. At least that's how it's been at other cars I've owned with the ZF8. I'd much rather get a whole new trans than trust a dealer mechanic to crack open the ZF8.

Wow, it could be the trans? Is it a problematic model? Or am I just lucky?

I only say trans because of the gravel sound and the problem with neutral. It could just as easily be an engine. I'd rather it be the trans swap though.

No, these trans and its variants are super reliable. Probably the most used transmission in the world across various manufactures. I've had one in multiple cars including my track car.

for the record when my battery and alternator died it would not shift out of park. has something to do with the computer needing some time to reset itself. If you don't have enough juice to run the electronics it would run rough and ultimately die. simple fix if that is what it is.

Fingers crossed!

I hope the OP keeps us updated.

Had the same issue not with my pw but after replacing the alternator and battery I discovered it was a 3 dollar fuse that shorted. Forgot what the fuse went to.

The electronics in the cab were all working while we were driving and then after the engine stalled out. So maybe it's something else or if the alt died everything was still pulling off the battery. But for me years ago when I had the alt fail it killed the battery with it. Of course that was a very different vehicle. Still awaiting word from the dealership.

Sorry to hear OP.. when will you have some news from the dealer?
