Multiple Warranty Trips to Dealership - Seeking some advice/help

Hey Everyone,
Looking for some advice on how to pursue some issues I've been having with my 2020 Ram 2500 4x4 Laramie 6.7 Cummins Mega Cab . Currently it has 11K miles on it and I've been to the dealership for repairs and mistake fixes multiple times and it's getting very frustrating.

Here's the rundown: I've had it to the dealership 3 times now, first for initial warranty repair, then two more times to fix their mistakes, and I still have an issue stemming from the initial repair. I think I've gone over 3 weeks of not having my truck and having to coordinate with my wife for sharing our Yukon to get me to work and get kids to school. Oh and they keep telling me they put me on a "waiting list" for a loaner car but have never actually updated me on that or offered me one. My frustration level is boiling over at this point.

Here's the history:

Dealer Visit #1: 9,500 miles... Truck lost all power on the freeway and died when I came to a stop. Wouldn't restart. (picture attached) Towed it to the dealership and they diagnosed it as having metal in the fuel system. Had to replace the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injectors, flush the lines and clean the tank. A pretty involved repair and was covered under warranty. I think they had the truck for a total of 2 weeks which means we couldn't use it on our family vacation. Not their issue, but it sucked. It is what it is.

Dealer Visit #2: I got the truck back after the initial fuel system repair and immediately noticed it was leaking oil in my drive way. Like a drip every 5 or so minutes. I also noticed clear fluid quickly dripping out when running (I assumed it was A/C runoff). Took it back to the dealership and told them about the leaks and also asked about a weird buzzing/rattling noise that the engine now made. I got it back from them and the clear fluid was actually diesel fuel spraying out from a banjo fitting that "rattled loose". Hmmm.... I asked what about the oil leak and noise, they came back and said the oil was residual and the fuel was pushing it down. Nothing on the noise.
Here is a video of the fuel spraying out of the truck and a picture of how much "residual oil" it put down after two days:

Fuel leak video:
Pics of 2 days worth of oil leaks: https://photos.app.goo.gl/orFfp6vV85yRUdkf7

Dealer Visit #3: Brought it back in again to show them how much oil it was putting down. They had it for another few days and found that the valve cover gasket was leaking. They got that fixed and gave me no feedback on the rattling/buzzing noise. Said it's hard to tell and the tech "couldn't verify" where it was coming from. I immediately fired it up and put the truck in drive for the service writer to hear it. He basically acknowledged that he could hear it but offered no guidance.

The truck now runs, doesn't leak fuel, doesn't leak oil, but the buzzing/rattling noise from the engine is so loud that people have pointed it out. Friends of mine with the same truck have asked what the noise is and "what is wrong with your truck?" It really makes it loudly when the truck is in drive and I'm at a stop. When I put it in park or neutral it goes away momentarily then trickles back in as the idle comes down again. I put it in drive and the noise immediately picks back up.

Here is a video of the buzzing/rattling noise as I shift from Drive to Neutral a few times (It's difficult to hear in this video but much more apparent in person):
Buzzing/rattling Video:

So I guess I'm at a loss here since the dealership "can't verify" the noise and isn't offering much help other than to wait for it to get worse. But come on! This noise was NOT there before they did the warranty work on the exploded fuel pump and then all the back and forth I've had to do and be without my truck for 21 total days so far. I'm just about at the end of my rope here with this situation.

Anybody have any advice on how to escalate this issue or should I try another dealership in the area? Or will I get told it's not a Dodge warranty issue since it's a workmanship repair issue from a dealership service department? Any advice is much appreciated before I make another call to the same dealership to drop it off for days and be without a vehicle to get a non-answer all over again.

Thanks!

Not sure if it will help but you can try Ram Cares to get them involved. @RamCares

I can definitely hear what your talking about in the video and that is not normal. Do you have different dealer you could take it to?

none of that is normal. unfortunately, as you have found out, that is normal behaviors and outcomes of some dealers.

good luck, I'd leverage ramcares.

FCA, Lawyer , doesn,t the US have a lemon law ,different dealer with any luck they will know what there doing, hard to find good help these days and these trucks cost way to much for us to go through what you are

I seem to have narrowed the noise down to one of the pulleys for the belt myself. I'm going to try a different dealership even though the location is not as convenient. I called and left a message for the original dealership to schedule service and reminding them of the issue and they have not called back, big surprise.

I'm aware of the California lemon law, but really don't want to go that route. I've got the truck set up exactly the way I want and have spent a lot of money on the add-ons that Input on the truck.

Hopefully this other dealership can be of some help for me.

Lemon Law varies by state.

I know Colorado is one of the worst/hardest to Lemon a vehicle.

I think this member has to push back to get any results and I,m sure he is not the only one who has and will have this problem of the CP4 exploding. I haven,t read , but isn,t there a thread on this sort of issue , What are other members doing to get the results they deserve

I think it's a little crazy that this is happening with these CP4's. After all the other workmanship issues I encountered throughout this process, I wonder how well they actually cleaned the metal out of my fuel tank and flushed out my fuel lines. Their tech notes on my invoice literally say "found fuel tank full of metal."

Reporting back on the fix for the noise. I took the truck to a different dealership, the service advisor came out and listened to the noise with me so he could make sure his techs identify it, which was nice.

Turns out it wasn't a belt pulley like I thought and was actually the injection pump. The previous dealership did not flash the correct software when the initial fuel system repairs were done. This new dealership flashed the new software for the injection pump and the noise is supposedly gone (I'm going to pick the vehicle up in about an hour).

CRAZY that it came to this. Happy it's fixed, however I asked again if the new fuel pump and system work that was done in the first place is a newer style pump, or if this is going to be a recurring problem. My advisor was honest and said he doesn't know and will ask the tech. He said they have only had one of these trucks fail with the fuel system issue that he is aware of. So I'll give a report if they think it's a newer fuel pump or not.

Glad to hear that it is finally resolved. Which Northern CA dealer was this?

It happened again!! We were 3 hours into our 5 hour road trip pulling our travel trailer and the same symptoms occurred as when the CP4 went out the first time. I was in the left lane, going uphill, started to lose power, and "Service Exhaust System, See Dealership" came up in the center dash. I was barely able to swerve over in front of a big rig to get off the highway onto the shoulder before as I lost all power and came to a stop. This time, there was diesel fuel all over the undercarriage.

This was a nightmare!! Had to get the truck on a flatbed and the trailer towed behind the tow truck. Got the truck to the nearest dealership where they can't look at it for a week. This is unbelievable. I bought this truck brand new 10 months ago to avoid these exact situations. This is now my FIFTH visit to a dealership with a new truck all related to the same fuel system problems and other mistaken repairs made by Lithia Dodge in Santa Rosa CA.

I walked the Dodge, Ford, and Chevy lots trying to just buy a truck to keep our vacation going but unfortunately nothing was ready or would work. Luckily, friends of ours live an hour and a half away and brought me their F350 Dually so we could hook up and get to our vacation spot.

I'm grateful we are safe and I didn't get in an accident, the weather wasn't hot, we were comfortable in our trailer while waiting at the dealers lot, the service department was very accommodating considering we had to drop our 40 foot travel trailer in their parking lot, and we got back on the road with the trailer in a friend's truck. All in all, it went about as good as it could have.

However, this is getting ridiculous. Any advice on how to get Dodge to buy this truck back, just give me my money back, cover me for the add ons I out on it and let me buy a 2021 so I can move on with my life. At this point I have ZERO confidence in this truck. I'm willing to bet that the incorrect software flash for the injection pump that Lithia did when they made the initial warranty repairs and the horrible grinding noise it was making for TWO MONTHS that they continued to ignore as I repeatedly brought it back to them caused some damage and put me in the spot I'm in today. Thankfully, McConnell Dodge in Healdsburg fixed the software issue and the noise was gone, but I'm assuming the damage was already done.

(I'm making these posts as a point of reference for me to come back to as notes for a later time, but I appreciate any feedback or help anyone has as they read my "keyboard muscle" induced rant.)

Lithia Dodge of Santa Rosa did the initial warranty repair, but gave it back to me with the fuel leak, oil leak, and terrible grinding injection pump noise. Visit by visit they fixed the fuel leak, next visit they fixed the oil leak, but continued to ignore the noise. I gave up and went to McConnell where they fixed the noise for me.

Get to reading on CA Lemon Law. Some states do include add-ons/modifications after sale.

1 helpful point is to not swear off Ram/FCA. If you are open (at least when speaking to reps) to staying with Ram, they will likely be more open to discussions. Throwing a fit and yelling about going to the Ford dealer is more likely to throw a wall up.

I totally agree. I want another Ram...100%. Just not THIS Ram. I'd even bump up to a 3500 this time around.

If I mentioned Ford or GM in the previous post it was only that I was desperate yesterday and needed a diesel to pull our trailer. I was hell bent on not losing this vacation with my family.

Wooooooooooooooooooow. Im so sorry this is happening to you! With the trailer hooked up and on vacation to boot. What a disaster. Id be livid!!!

That said, i can understand the desire to keep your truck after you spent money to make it the way you want it. It s a beautiful truck!!

No easy answer on this one. I'd be half tempted to install an aftermarket CP3 conversion and never worry about it again.

These dealer Service (lol) Departments are incompetent!
