Mounting the Tow Mode camera…

Has anyone with a tow mode camera “wired” for a 2023 or any other year for that matter put the actual camera in a smaller enclosure. The one it comes with is huge and awkward.

There would definitely be room to shrink the enclosure significantly. There's a lot of empty space inside there.



Is there a specific size you're trying to fit it into?

This probably won't help, but here's an adapter I designed for the 360 trailer camera system. It's mounts to the factory rear view camera mount that came with my trailer.



For this application I had to extend it a few inches to bring the camera height inline with the side cameras, and the angle is set exactly to the same 45 degrees used by the original 360 camera mount.

My issue is that I am mounting on a cargo trailer that is used to transport cars so the back is a tall ramp door. my only spot to mount it is where the door closes on top but the area between the end of the door and the drip channel is too narrow (top to bottom) by about 3/4 of an inch. Also if I put it there it will be right next to the third light and I am not sure how that would affect it at night but I would have to deal with that. The other option is to mount it on the roof but not only do I not want to drill holes in my roof but it will be a target to get knocked off. If I could get something a inch shorter I could find a way to make that work.


In a perfect world putting it in something like this would be perfect but anything an inch shorter then what I have will work also...

If you mount a spacer (slightly thicker than the drip edge) in the area between the door and the drip edge, could you then move the camera up so that it clears the door and overhangs the drip edge? Would this achieve what you're looking for? It's tough to judge by looking at the picture, and I don't have a camera at home to look at.

Another option is to mount it on the door. Make sure it's low enough there's no concern with it hitting the ground when the door is opened. Then be sure to route the cable to minimize flex when the door opens. Maybe something like this?

That is not a bad idea going with spacers between the door and the drip edge. I may put it up there with some 3M 2way tape to test it out at night in the driveway to see if there is any distraction from the 3rd light.

So I went with your idea above. It came out great.

Also the Tow Mode camera with the digital rear view mirror works out great!
