Going to do my first oil change (6.4) Having trouble finding the Pennzoil 0W40 but can get either Castrol or Mobil 1 with an extended Mobil 1 filter. Which one is having better results? I'm not sure if either have MS-12633 rating as in the manual but the manual also states ASI 0W40.

Thanks!

Got my pennzoil for the 6.4 from Amazon if that helps. I went to one retailer (pep boys), didn't see it there, and didn't feel like driving around all over the place

Thanks, unfortunately right now Amazon is going to take over a month to be delivered. I'll probably use them for the next one.

AMSOIL makes that spec oil also, just do a search for MS-12633 oil and you’ll find them, you gotta search through the details and descriptions on the oils to find what specs they meet. The AMSOIL is more expensive, but I trust their product.

Thanks, I found an O'Reilly that has it and a Mopar oil filter. I'll return the Castrol and go with that instead.

Just an FYI, my 2015 6.4 was prone to Hemi Tick, and the Amsoil 0W40 SS(AZF)was by far the noisiest, shortest lived(based on noise)oil that I tried. I actually sold Amsoil prducts, and it is still in my wife's car, so I am NOT a hater. It was quieter on PUP 0W40, but still would tick after a few thousand miles. It was quieter still, and longer lived on Redline 0W40, but Redline 5W40 was the quietest, and could go the longest change interval. Ester base, and more moly seems to keep Hemis happy. If you have the good fortune to get a Hemi that is not a fussass like mine was, rock on.

For those of us who can't/don't change our own oil, I have found the Dealer Mopar prepaid plans are useful and inexpensive, here in Ca. you buy two changes for $130.00, it is hard to beat $65.00 per oil change. Heck, the Pennzoil ultra platinum 0W-40 alone is going to be at a minimum $50.00 and that's if you can find it, the only drawback is paying upfront.

That's actually a fantastic price. I just spent $85 on the 7 qts of Pennzoil Platinum and the Mopar filter. I do however still prefer doing it myself as I take my time and drain the oil and I just hate sitting at a dealership. I called around the Central Florida area and it ranges from $130/oil change to $70

Right, my mechanic who is a friend quoted me $100.00 for a single change...but I do understand the not wanting to wait at the dealerhip even at the express lane, which isn't so 'express', I will throw my bike in the back and ride the 8 miles home and get a little exercise...kill two birds with one stone.

Lucky, closest dealer to me is 41 miles.

The Pennzoil is the only oil with the factory spec. I have always used CastroI in all of my previous vehicles. Not This time as it is a warranty issue.
There is a lot of controversy over how long of an interval between changes. Note: they went with a smaller oil filter because of clearance issues with the radiator. It looks smaller than the one on the 5.7. My solution is to change filter every 3500 miles and change the oil every 7000 miles.
I spent a year of trying to find a reasonably priced local source of the Pennzoil 0-40. I finally found out it is sold by Shell oil distributors. It can be bought by the quart or in bulk. Buying from a commercial outlet it will be priced by the gallon. This changes as the market does. Just like gasoline. I will be doing all my changes from here on out.

Amsoil 0W-40 meets MS - 12633 as well

I stand corrected there is a legal out noted in the owners manual.
I personally think there is a lot of desire to even take changing your oil away from you. Another curious note is all tests were using 5W-30W. The SRT versions of the Pennzoil are different than the Platinum Ultra. This is the first time I have seen a specific oil brand other than OEM named in a owners manual.

Also found out that RED LINE and RAVENOL also claim to meet FCA MS-12633

People say the same about Schaeffer's.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
Schaeffers is definitely good stuff, but my comment was based on folks, such as myself, who had Hemi tick, and Red Line fixed it. PUP did not, and Amsoil made my 6.4 sound like a thrashing machine. It was scary bad. It seems to be a combination of ester base plus high moly content. Many. many examples of this. I would be very interested to see examples where Schaeffers tamed Hemi tick, as it would be another tool in the shed.

I'm new to the HEMI and the 6.4... but I see people saying oil X helped with Y.
But it does seem that most agree that a high Moly content seems to work best.
All I know is that I ran AMSoil in both previous vehicles and got 186K out of the Accord and 135K out of the Dakota with zero engine issues.
