Looking to see if anybody has any experience with these good or bad??

Not specific to the 68RFE pan, but lots of reports of Mishimoto quality control issues over the years.

Unless you spend a lot of time with the torque converter unlocked it’s unlikely you’ll see much of a difference in temps or get much added benefit from the added volume.

Hopefully the issues don’t extend to the pan. I mainly got it for the drain plug and the thicker flange. Planning on using a gasket (never been a big fan of RTV). I’m mainly going to be towing about 7500lbs with maybe 600-700lbs in the bed of gear. Lots of long trips through the hills in PA,NY, and northern NJ. Should be a walk in the park for it.

Nothing you need extra cooling or fluid for, thou the lack of a drain on the 68RFE pan is annoying.

I tow roughly 10,000lbs worth of toy hauler through NNJ, PA, and down through the mountains in VA & VW. Often times I'm towing with 35" or bigger tires. So far my trans temps have always stayed under 190. There was one time, I had to crawl up a steep hill with a nasty hairpin in it in 1st gear, then my trans temp got a little hot & peaked around 208, but that was the highest I ever saw them go. I also plow with this truck and again never see the trans temps crack 190 while plowing.

However the lack of a drain plug is pretty stupid IMHO, and I'll probably go to an aftermarket pan with a plug when I'm finally due for service.

I was on the fence about it but having to do the service anyway I’m gonna get it over with. The flange on the OEM pan just looks flimsy and in my experience most of the time a gasket fails it’s due to either over torquing or the surfaces are imperfect/bent. If it drops temps it drops temps . Worst I’ve seen towing with my 1500 was NY 9N on the northern side of Lake George heading to Ticonderoga for a tournament. The 1500 did it but did not sound happy about it even with the 3.92 rears and towing package.

I cant remember what Pan my guy installed but when i switched to a oversized pan, I saw a small temp drop. Now doing some heavy towing it wont matter you will need a better cooler. The inline thermal Valve still doesnt open till 180deg. People are switching to an aftermarket bypass, but pay attention to that your trans can run too cold. Mishimoto has a nice one where you can switch it back and fourth and should open 10deg cooler than OEM.

I think the pan is where I draw the line for the time being. I have the 4 year/48000 mile powertrain warranty from MOPAR so not trying to make too many mods. I saw the bypass from a few companies and saw some of the differences it made were impressive. Also saw the mishimoto one with the removable thermostat for summer. Definitely on my radar post warranty period.

yes most definitely, Trans pan will not void warranty i know that. Bypass will probably void warranty. My work truck has 78k on it and has had the valve body has been replaced and already acting up again. My personal truck is getting the torq converter replaced right now at 54k, its best to keep warranty with the 68rfe.

The thermal bypass on my truck opens at 168*. I’ve never seen the temperature get over 174* towing 7.5k in 116* temperature around Abilene, Tx. at 70-75 mph. 2022 2500 with 68rfe.

I know a few people that have had them. We have cooler weather in the winter months and they can't get trans temp above 130deg. We might see a month of temp 90+ but that is it.

We mostly have towed in the SW and during the summer months. There’s a few pretty good hills in NM and I have not seen any high trans temps but the drain plug for the pan would be a nice option.

Yeah if I lived in a warmer temp area it would make sense. The moshimoto one makes more sense for me run 10deg cooler than oem or run it wide open by taking it out.

I was thinking it was the same temp as my Aisin, which usually runs 163-165°. I’ve seen it above 190°, but only after long 1st gear pulls above 20K GCW.

Just don’t see the need for the modified/removed thermal bypass, they are there for good reason.

Yeah this time of year the trans temp would never get up to operating temperature without it. It’s slow getting up to temperature even with it in there. I do plan to change the pan on mine at the first fluid and filter change just to get the drain plug.

Yeah my trans doesn’t get to temp on the way to work, which is 14 miles. The torque converter just spends too much time locked
