We found a truck almost 1500 miles away. It checks all the boxes and it is a good price. The dealer will ship for free. This will be my first time buying from a dealer like this. It is pretty much the way I would have ordered a truck. So in that regard, at least in my mind, it isn't much different than placing an order with a dealer for a new build. I have read reviews for the dealer and they look good. I have talked to the Internet sales manager and he seems stand up - at least no red flags went off. How has a remote buy like this gone for others? Any advice?

I bought a car sight unseen 2000 miles from home. It was an experience but this was a used car. New is most likely safer. I would want a live video chat examining the vehicle to make sure there isn't any shipping damage. I have had brand new vehicles arrive damaged before. I bought my Ram 700 miles from home but drove to get it. That way I could still refuse if something was amiss.

Interesting that they will ship it themselves. My experience has been that most dealers want to close the deal and then have you responsible for shipping. You effectively authorize the shipper to take delivery for you and then transport it to you. That way, if anything happens, the dealer is not responsible for it - its between you and the shipping company.

Trucks are hard to find right now. I was close to doing the same thing. Just make sure you protect yourself. Free shipping is an awesome perk. I was look at just under $2k for a similar distance.

I just traded for my new 3500 RAM from 600 miles away, they appraised my truck remotely (by my pictures and description) and we worked out the entire deal from home, they overnighted the paperwork and I overnighted it back, went and picked up the truck last week in GA (I'm in WV) pulled up to the dealership, met the sales gal outside, we swapped keys and I was on my way back in less than 15 mins.
They gave me way more than anyone in my area (and even more than book) plus knocked over $10,000 off the sticker.
It was undoubtedly the easiest trade I've ever made, like you this truck has almost everything I wanted and checked all the boxes..

Try your darned to not put any money down to hold it as it may not be as advertised, I've been through that once before in a19 model. Second it is almost hard to believe that they will ship for free from that far, normally they will charge, especially over 500 miles, are you sure that they just didn't say free shipping then add 1500 dollars to the price of vehicle as its not cheap to transport one like we would imagine. If it's your perfect vehicle, wait untill you actually put eyes on it to confirm all the details

I live in Northern Canada and we have bought about 10 autos 1400kms south of us in Edmonton, Alberta. Some dealers have bought the wife and I one way airline tickets and hotel. One was a trade in I shipped a car south and they shipped one back they paid both ways. The car they wanted real bad was a Grand National with real low miles.

I worked the price first. They advertise free shipping to anywhere in the US right on their webpage. If any damage occurs to it, or it is not in new condition I can refuse it, have it fixed locally at their expense or send it back to them for repair. Their insurance covers it to my door. I have looked at photos, the window sticker and I also entered the VIN into the handy link for the build sheet I found on the forum. It all looks good so far (knocking on wood). I will continue to be vigilant though.

Thats a great deal, definitly not very common occurrence down here in the lower 48 .man if it wasn't for my health insurance, I'd be up there with yah. Heck who knows, In 3 months a lot of us may be out of health ins, then there's not gonna be anything holding us back, open up the kinuk border. Ram convoy headed north.

awesome sauce, I'm knocking on wood for you. Go over it with a fine tooth comb when you inspect it. I took my 14 pg build sheet and looked at every item to make sure it was there and good looking and functional, took about 1.5 hrs too do my walk and crawl around. A little obsessive, yes indeed, but i figured that was the time to do it, not the next day at home after i signed on the dotted line.. I'm excited fer YAH

I'm doing exactly this 500 miles away from where I live. Paperwork will be sent overnight and return back tomorrow. Pretty seamless process although now that I have an agreement in place I'm going crazy as I want my new truck. After this I'm not sure I could wait for a custom build to take 2 months etc. Good luck to you.

I haven’t stepped foot on a car lot for my last 3 trucks until it was time to sign the paperwork. The 2500 I just got I never went and they brought it to my house and picked up my trade, we did paperwork in my kitchen. Easiest car buying experiences of my life...find what I want, call my salesman, send him pics of my trade, and the new truck shows up at my door. Can’t beat that with a stick! Lol. It’s great if you know what you are looking for and have a good dealer.

100%, once you set foot on there lot your at there mercy and you lose cuz they know they got you. Great job. I didn't show up untill the signing day

Ask them to make sure they won't drive it to you. That's mean extra 1500 miles on the tachometer.

Not only that, some turkey will be hot dogging it during that initial 1000 miles wich aides in helping everything mesh together. Dirty boots, dirty pants, French fries, blown out speakers. Uggghhhh noooo

I just purchased my 2020 like that. Dealer was about 850mi away, so everything was done through email and phone. Overall the experience was a good one. In order to get free shipping they had to drive the vehicle to me, and pick up mine, instead of shipping it on a trailer. Beat driving from TN to TX and back, plus they had the best deal I could find.

We're bought in tn, i lived in Knoxville for 20yrs

Maybe ask them if they will cover half the price for a round trip plane ticket. Then you could look at it, do some paperwork and fly home and wait. Personally, I would probably just fly there and drive it back, but I like road trips.

The last two trucks I have bought are from a dealership about 350 miles away. And I bought a Jeep this year 850 miles away. I flew there and drive it back.
