So I have a new 2022 RAM 3500 and found a Master Lock key on a zip tie in the glove box. Is this actually used for anything? I did have it in for service for a week so maybe they left it or the factory as I have no idea what it would be used for. Any ideas?

I see your truck is from Mark Dodge - they threw a lock on my spare tire, i'm sure that is what your key is for.

Saw that in mine too. Figured it was for the spare but haven’t checked it. Did see a big red cable back there though (around the spare and the hitch receiver).

They included one on my truck, too. Also, locking lug nuts. Both I knew nothing about until I picked it up.

Yeah, I saw the locking lug nuts too in there too. Talked to some friends tonight that had a spare tire lock on their truck. They said that when they needed to actually use the spare tire, the lock had so much corrosion (Michigan winters = road salt) that they had to take bolt cutters to get it off to get to the tire. I'm thinking I'm going to pop the lock off here as spare tire theft wasn't even something I was aware of.

Spare tire theft, a while back these guys were talking about tailgates being stolen! Glad I live out in the countryish!

RAM sells an accessory spare tire lock (rod) you can install.

The first thing I did when I got home with my truck was remove the lock because I knew it would inevitably be stuck on there when I desperately need the spare someday.

thats a great point that I wasnt thinking of. I need to take the spare tire lock off before it corrodes. I pulled the locking lugnuts off last week.

Locks that you hardly ever use you can put grease in them and leave it exposed over top of the key cylinder slightly. It acts like a barrier wont let stuff get in there, if you actually needed to keep it.
