For those of you that installed taller coils like carli or thuren, were 3 ton jack stands tall enough to get the truck up and drop the axle or did you have to use 6 ton? Thanks.

Put the 3 ton stands on some cribbing

Perfect. That’s what I needed to know. Didn’t want to go buy 6 ton if I didn’t need to. Worse case I can throw some pavers under.

I used pavers under my jack stands, that front axle drooped a lot more than I expected when swapping things. I also found that a half round of wood on the floor jack in the middle of the front axle perfectly molded to the axle.

Did anyone have to unhook axle breather tube or just the abs/brake lines to drop it enough?

Obviously the measurement methods being used are unreliable. I don't think my 3 ton stand would reach the axle on stock tires. The 6 tons might have worked, but I used my 12 ton stands which max out at 28".

FYI, jack stands capacities are rated by the pair, not singles.

I’ll use floor jacks under the axle. The stands were just for under the frame right behind the radius arms.

The stock axle hight is less than 12” off the ground a standard 3 ton stand reaches 20” plenty of reach plus can be cribbed under the stand, if he was doing it lots id recommend bigger stands but for a one time thing no need to spend the money.... here is my 3 tons and 6 tons in comparison when building my flat deck the frame rails are level and 20” off the ground

All jack stands made after 2015 are rated as a pair per ASME PASE-2014

For what it’s worth, used my 3 1/2 ton craftsman stand with driver side on two pavers side by side and passenger side jack on ground. Was able to get up enough to where floor jack was almost back flat with axle on it once I dropped it down. Barely made it with out having to jack it all back up again thankfully.
