Leaving for Georgia on Friday, going to meet up with someone I was in Marines boot camp with and her husband whom had an ancestor that was friends with an ancestor of mine. Both did fight in the American Civil War which I have my ancestor's rifle and his uniform. He fought for the North which he put a slashes on the stock, 50 of them for every Johnny Reb he shot and killed. This guy's ancestor was good friends with him before the war and fought for the south. After the war they remained good friends until their dying day. His ancestor passed in 1924 and my ancestor made it to his funeral and mine passed in 1925 which his ancestor's 2 sons made it to my ancestor's funeral. He has pictures of them together before and after the war I never seen. I read my ancestor's diary and he mentioned him a lot. They were 20 years old when they met in Tennessee in 1854 and that is when the friendship happened. His wife, we met in Marines Boot camp and did serve together. bringing a picture of us together taken at Marines boot camp graduation. Found out she got out at the same I did, a fellow soldier raped and sexually assaulted the crap out of her. Took her 2 years to fully recover from that and nothing was done about it. Flying out and bringing my handgun, know it has to be in a hard case unloaded with the ammo in the original box beside it and the hard case locked up declaring it at the ticket area filling out paperwork. It will be fun, hit a couple BBQ places and possibly shoot our handguns too. He has a firing range in his backyard.
