Have a 19 Ram 3500 6.7 with the 68rfe. Its had this tap or knock ever since I’ve had it, in my opinion, it doesn’t sound like a rod knock or anything like that but potentially something with the new lifters. Have heard a lot of these trucks have this but I haven’t had a clear answer. I have a video I’m trying to figure out how to upload that makes it seem a little louder than it actually is, and isn’t my video but better audio than I could get. Anyone figured out what it is?

Didn’t work for me. Post the video on YouTube and share the link.
Who does your oil changes?

Ok I’ll try that. The dealership does it on this one, I have so many free from buying it.

Here it is, like I said, the video makes it sound louder. I tried to take a video of mine but you can’t hear the noise in the video. The video is from a 2020 model, he said he took it to the dealer to have it checked and they replaced the lifters and checked his camshaft and the noise is still there

Are you sure the dealer is using the correct oil? I’ve seen guys get their engines replaced by dealers because dealers poured the wrong oil (15-40) in the new engines.

I know, in my video couldn’t even hear it over the engine, I’m not sure if his is actually that loud or what. And as far as I’m aware they are, sticker and everything says 5w-40. It’s due soon and I’m gonna bring it up and see what they think. But what’s weird is one of the comments claims they he was running rotella 5w40 and 10w30 and it did this but switched to delo 5w40 and it stopped. So it may very well be an oil issue

Hi Daltondbl,
We'd suggest visiting your local dealer for diagnosis of your concerns. If you'd like any additional assistance alongside them, feel free to send us a PM. We'd be happy to help.

Man, that’s crazy loud! Are you deleted, or do you also have an exhaust leak?

The video is from an emissions intact truck. Mine is do for an oil change in about 2k more miles and is no where near as loud as the video. Exhaust leak had also crossed by mind, as at some points it sounds just like one. However, no codes etc, truck runs and drives as it should.

that's no exhaust leak, captain.

This is the video I took of mine, can’t even really hear it but it is there. I agree his is not an exhaust leak but on mine it almost sounds like one at some points

Can barely hear it, it may not even be the same as what I posted above and it may be completely normal, I came out of a 4th gen and this truck is a lot quieter than it was and I notice more noises I haven’t heard before
