Had a weird incident the other day with my key fob. Stopped at a Fred Meyers to grab couple items and when I returned to truck the key fob wouldn’t unlock the door so removed the key inside fob and unlocked door..that’s when things got crazy horn started honking lights flashing I jumped inside and closed door and started punching buttons on fob and the start button..nothing. Finally the horn quit honking but start button wouldn’t work neither would button on fob. Got a key fob not detected message. Finally called the dealer which was just down the road and talked to my salesman. He said they’ve gotten a few calls about this from same parking lot. He instructed me to take the key fob and use it to physically push the start button and everything started up just fine. I tested this couple times by shutting engine off and restarting. It would only start using key fob to push start button. Everything back to normal after leaving parking lot. Salesman thinks they installed a new security system in store that’s interfering …IDK weirdest sh@t I ever seen.

I have seen it before something interrupts the frequency.

5G interference possibly? Major airports tried to stop/delay 5G transmitters within a certain distance of the runways do to interference with the radio altimeters, extremely important during takeoff and landing. Supposedly this is being mitigated, to some extent, by the airports and commercial aviation by replacing older radio altimeters and/or adding filters and adding buffer zones. It would certainly be interesting to know what is in that parking lot that would interfere with the fob.

I have seen it years before 5G was out to the public. I also found out around fuel tankers it seems to not work they may have a jammer for safety but i am unsure

Yeah, remembering the "use FOB to push button" is an important thing now...especially if the battery ever dies, or apparently if there is a huge disruption in signal.

Yeah, I wish there was a setting that allowed you to have the alarm on and still open the door with the key without triggering the alarm. If you leave the truck and manually push the door lock peg down before closing the driver's door, then using the key does not set off the alarm but that is because the alarm is not set.

I believe our key fobs/remotes work on/near bluetooth frequency (pretty sure). Last summer a neighbor two doors down was getting extensive remodel upgrades to her home. All of the sudden my key fob (and next door neighbors key fob on his new GMC), house fan remote, camper jack remote and other remotes quit working. Only in our cul-de-sac. Once we got about 4 houses away (from the remodel) everything would work again. Called a tech from Idaho Power out to survey as they said they were concerned about their "smart meters". Tech traced the offending signal to the remodel house (at near bluetooth frequency) and scanned closer until he got into their driveway and finally said he could go no further because with the antenna he had the meter was off the scale. Tech claimed it was some bluetooth emitting device coming from the remodel but he wasn't coming back to pinpoint it as it did not have anything to do with their smart meters. This October, the offending signal suddenly ceased. Everyone's remotes and fobs are all working again -- for now.

@996Pilot ....Come on MAN...you can't just NOT find out what it was. Geeze!
I know - I wish I could but the (offending) neighbor got absolutely bent outta shape when the Idaho Power guy showed up with his test equipment telling her that the disturbance was coming from the back of her house. She went off the rails. At my age, I tend to stay away from Bat Sh17 Crazy Women (been there-done that) so I just let it go. Doesn't mean I'm any less pissed off or curious, just mindin my own business, retired & chillin.

Interesting.

Newer gen Fobs should be 315Mhz.

It's not BT.

Could have just been a wonky garage door opener (also 315Mhz) or some sideways DIY RF hackjob.

It could also have been a tinker/hacker kid doing some nefarious stuff, lots of it out there. https://www.rtl-sdr.com/transmitting-fm-am-ssb-sstv-and-fsq-with-just-a-raspberry-pi/

As to OP, it could be something simple like a wonky consumer device in the 315Mhz band. https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/carstair...endered-vehicle-key-fobs-inoperable-1.4279460

You're right --- kinda. I mis-stated the Idaho Power tech saying Bluetooth device. Should have remembered he said "Smart Home Device" which runs at 433MHz. Looking up our key fobs, several references online to them running at 433MHz along with garage door openers, wireless weather stations, smart outlets, and many other smart home appliances. This would make more sense as she probably added some "smart home" gadget during her extensive remodel.

The Tractor Supply in town is the same way. if you park on one side, fobs dont work. park on the other, no problem

315Mhz and 433Mhz are common for remotes.

There's some proprietary "Smart Home" remote control stuff that runs 433Mhz RF (ex. Homey). Most real Home automation is either Zigbee (and XBee), Zwave, or WiFi. Old door sensors, etc. also ran on those low freqs.

Did anyone ever come up with workable solutions to the intermittent key fob function noted above? My key fobs have been intermittent even when the truck location is unchanged. Interestingly (also intermittently) none of my driver door lock/unlock function works. There is no obvious correlation to location, temperature or other causes.

Not specifically related to the FOB themselves, but there WAS a TSB flash update for the RF hub that fixed a bunch of issues.
