Is there a way to display the current gear in the instrument cluster?

I have the Highline instrument cluster. I'm aware the current gear is displayed in the instrument cluster when ERS is activated but is there a way to keep it displayed without ERS activated? The owner's manual implies there is a way to do it in the settings but I can't figure it out. If it can't be displayed with ERS activated does the transmission operate differently with ERS activated and set to 8th gear as the limit?

you can enable that feature with Alpha or JScan, did this to mine.
Thanks, I don't have one of those yet but I'll keep it in mind. If I get enough reasons I might get one of those tools but just this doesn't justify it. It's strange that it isn't an option in the settings.

I need to set myself up with J scan (or Alfa). There are a few little things like TPMS threshold and this that would make it a worthwhile investment.

I went JScan, it’s SUPER easy to use. Alpha is amazing and extremely powerful but JScan worked for the things I’ll ever want to change.

“Mods” I’ve done so far with JScan:
Current gear enabled
Fog light drop out
Adjusted TPMS thresholds
Turned of ANC
