Is there a certain point in the year where you should just wait to order the next year's model?

I will have to check on that, unless they JUST cut if off, because I have heard some people on here that just ordered.

It may be different this year, but typically, when does production start for a new model? Like, if you can place an order for a 22 in the summer and they are delivered by September or October or so, that would probably be fine. That almost seems better than if I ordered this month and didn't receive it until August. But I don't want to get to where I wouldn't be able to receive it until early next year, as I would like to get this done this year.
Order banks are most likely closed out for this model year. If not, you better make a decision...like NOW... if you want an ordered truck in your possession by the end of this year. Fleet orders were due by March 1st, which means all other orders are usually due a few weeks after.

Since the 2019 model year HD release, there hasn’t been a normal opening order date (usually around late July) for the next model year, and I don’t see this year being any different. Whenever they do open order banks for 2022 HDs, you most likely won’t see the truck before Christmas.
 
The orders for the 21s opened around mid sept and the cut off for the 20s was a couple of weeks before that.. they start making the hd trucks later in the year then the half tons.. I ordered mine Sept 29th and recieved it the beginning of jan.. 14 weeks.. some take longer and some come in in 10 weeks..
 
There is a guy in the special order thread telling everyone he got 22% off MSRP. I lol'd.
I did get a little but over 22%! When you buy outright and don't bother having to finance you can get a good deal.
Someone like you that has to take a loan for 8 years pays through the nose!!

It's too bad this site had idiots like you that think you know everything.

There's a recent post here that orders are closed for the remainder of the current model year.

I suspect you already missed the boat if you were going to order a 21.

Dealers make more money through the financing than they do with cash. They usually have more incentives with their financing deals. I usually finance initially through the dealer, and then refi after 90 days with credit union.

And with vehicle loans in the 4% or less range, it made sense to finance because my money is making 7%+. When that changes I will pay off all loans.
 
It would be impossible for me to ignore the impact of Covid on quality and reliability. Overall it feels like Covid has adversely impacted both while customer service has declined. Production lines have been shut down and even after limited manufacturing has been restarted, component shortages are limiting throughput. The semiconductor shortage can be seen in the 2500 class of vehicles as dealer inventories are very low to non-existent. My brother in law worked in the new vehicle transport industry and noted that those vehicles missing components to finish out production are being hauled to storage lots. Later when components are available they may run the trucks back through the production line to install and test the vehicle to finish out production. Or they may hire some 3rd party to retrofit the sea of partially built product.

In summary I would have to think twice on 2021 product and also consider the possibility that 2021 product delays will impact 2022 introduction. The industry spokepersons are saying the semi issues are going to last at least 6 months. Well that says even 2022's will be impacted.
So, maybe towards end of year we may see some deals from backlog of 21’s .........I know, wishful thinking.

Financed, or paid full in cash, the dealer essentially gets their money the day you sign the paperwork. It's not like they are collecting your monthly payments. That's the banks deal.

Couple that with their kickbacks from the banks, and there would be no reason for them to incentivize cash purchases over financed purchases.

In 1984 I was a salesman for a motorcycle shop. I got my manager to go along with me on a few things. One was instead of discounting the motorcycle, if they financed through us I would "give them" a $250-$500 voucher for our accessories. As long as they didn't pay it off in 90 days, I made the finance money. I was the only salesman in that shop that rode daily. Rain or shine. I made out great because the navy bases were filled with folks returning from a 7 month deployment. I only quit to go back into the military.
