Why don’t manufacturers put the engine oil drain at the low spot of the oil pan? On our 2022 Cummins 6.7, the oil pan has a low spot to the rear of the drain plug. Being a bit anal, I’ve fashion a “j” shaped hook of metal connected to a drill pump. I get close to a half quart of dirty oil out of the low spot. On our Toyota Tundra and Acura RDX, the drain plug is on the side of the oil pan, not the bottom, a bit of distance above the bottom. In both of those cases, I jack up the side of the vehicle to drain out more oil.
I guess the oil filter removes solid contaminants and the half quart of old oil doesn’t dilute the new 12 quarts all that much, but I hate the thought of oil dirty oil mixing with the new stuff. It seems so me it wouldn’t be that difficult to shape an oil pan correctly.
