I own a 2019 Ram 2500 6.4 with the 8 speed trans. I bought the truck new and planned to use it to tow my camper primarily. I have had issues with the truck shifting into neutral randomly when coming off a stop in forward or reverse. It doesn’t happen from a stop, rather it starts moving then drops to neutral. Really no fun when you are in an intersection and have to shift to park then back to drive. So at 6813 miles the dealer Changed out the valve body, tcm update and pcm update after opening a star case. This was the time it went into neutral in an intersection and I had to coast to the side of the road. All seemed fine until 9059 miles it happened again. This time I was backing into a driveway so I was able to take my phone out and take a video of the flashing light over the R. First time it happened somewhere it was safe for me to video it. I brought the truck back in and there were again no codes. They kept the truck, opened another star case and checked that the dowl pin on the camshaft wasn’t sheared. Then they changed out the fuel pump, called me and told me the truck was ready for pickup.

At the bottom of the description is written “customer advised to monitor condition”. That does not make me feel that they feel the problem is solved.

I Have told Chrysler and the dealer that my driving has changed because I am cautious about making left hand turns across traffic. Now I am told to monitor the condition. That doesn’t seem safe to me. Anybody else see that? Or is it just me that feels coasting through an intersection so you can put it into park and then drive is unsafe?

It is just documentation to cover their ass in case something does happen. If I were a mechanic and I wanted to cover my ass I would put that there too. The lawyers are in everything these days, so everyone, whether they do solid work or not needs to be smart enough to document in a way that fends off lawyers. Sadly there is a lot of ****ty people out there that bring lawyers into everything, so this is how we have to practice. Just drive careful until you trust it again. Keep an eye on your lemon law rules, and if it scares you enough that you just can’t be comfortable trade it in. I have the same engine and trans and the thing works just fine, so you should expect it to work as good as everyone else’s. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with that on a new truck, so lame.

I used to be a mechanic for Mercedes a while back. Statement's such as customer to monitor were required. You never know when something is going to fail. Most likely, the problem is fixed. But, what happens if the valve body fails again? What happens if the fuel pump fails again? What happens if the engine locks up? Were any of those things the mechanics fault? Probably not.

It is a CYA as Squatch referenced because they can't say your vehicle is going to operate 100% for the next million miles let alone 2 miles. I completely understand your hesitation around the issue. Shifting into neutral is no small matter but the future can't be guaranteed for any of the parts or systems that were affected. I wish you never had to experience any of this, but things do break, just sucks when it happens to us.

Squatch, I understand people bringing in lawyers. My wife got hit while riding her bike. The guy turned right into her. We had people telling us get a lawyer you will clean up. We didn’t hire a lawyer, got bills covered, replacement bike, and she got enough to cover some Possible future issues. I wish I felt safe driving it, but yeah, probably going to get rid of it. I had told Chrysler I honestly believe the 6.4 with 8 speed is a good setup and I just got a lemon, but my vehicle doesn’t qualify for Chrysler to do anything more than offer me compensation for the 30+ days I was without it. I honestly went from “I love my ram” to “I hate my ram” last time, when it sat at the dealer for 4 weeks while Chrysler basically guessed what might be causing it. At the rate the truck is going once warranty runs out I will not be able to afford the repairs.
