I took my new truck into the woods today.

My first trip into the Idaho mountains with the new 2500 6.7. I have a 2024 Jeep Wrangler on 35's that is my normal woods exploring vehicle, but the Ram was needed for the extra seating capacity due to taking the grandsons out huckleberry picking.

The truck is stock other than a leveling kit, sidesteps, and new front bumper. 99% of the day was spent on gravel and dirt roads that a stock Subaru could navigate easily. But to get to my favorite spot required a pretty steep dirt trail climb. My previous vehicle was a Toyota Tundra with all the goodies and more aggressive Goodyear Wrangler UltraTerrain ATs. Great tires, but I still had to put it in 4H to get to the top. Same with the Ram. The factory tires were surprisingly good on the dry dirt.

I couldn't believe how jarring the ride was. I didn't even check the air pressure in the tires, but I got out and let air out of the tires for 25 seconds each tire. On my Jeep, that's about 15psi less. After I did that, I got back in the truck and didn't notice a huge improvement, but it was better. I then checked the tire pressures via the computer and they were all still at 60-62psi. Wow. How much air was in them before??

I'm getting new 35s in a couple of days, so will have to experiment with those.

After an initial scouting trip to find berries, I took my daughter, son-in-law, and the grandsons out. We found tons of berries, the weather was perfect at 75 degrees, and we spent five hours in the mountains picking berries, then climbing a USFS wildfire lookout tower.

Looking forward to the new tires and getting the gear sorted out.

Nice first outing. You will find the factory tires aren’t great. I ran them to about 30k just to use them up on my pavement princess. They likely had close to 80psi in them if you hadn’t checked since picking it up from the dealer. It’s a truck. They ride like it for sure. Good luck with the new tires.
