Just got a 2023 with the hemi 6.4. I know some just say drive it, but I'm fine following some guidelines in the beginning.

I got the truck yesterday with 20 miles on it. As of today I'm currently at 110 miles, during which I have babied it, no hard throttle, very easy braking.

Per the manual, should I start doing some brief full throttle runs at this point?

Seems some of the research I have done has some people getting much more specific than this.

I thought I heard now towing for the first 500 miles, but I did not see that in the break in part of the manual.

it’s easy to be unclear on a procedure that everybody has their own opinion on.

At the end of the day you gotta do what you feel is right for your truck whatever makes you sleep well at night. Some people work them hard to break them in and some people baby them.

I drove mine normally and did an oil change very early and did not see any particles and my motor does not consume any oil so I’m happy with it.

I think if you got a lemon it’s gonna be a lemon regardless of how you treat it and if you got a gem it’s gonna be a gem.

There are two portions of the manual that discuss break-in. One for the engine and one for the truck. The 500 mile restriction is found in the towing section and is for the entire drivetrain.

It’s on page 201 of the current owners manual.

When I picked up my new 2022 from Mark Dodge in Louisiana, I started my 3,000 mile journey back home to western Washington state. The first 300 miles I kept it at 50mph varying the speed every once in a while. It was aggravating to do because I usually push the speed limit so it took me some discipline to keep it at 50 or just below. All those 300 miles I knew it was going to be worth it keeping the horses from busting out onto the open interstate. Now the truck has about 30,000 miles on it and runs like a champ - with never a sign of the notorious hemi tick. See page 131 of the above manual that @AH64ID linked to.

Three hundred miles goes by in a blink compared to the rest of life. Enjoy your new rig!!

I broke mine in driving from Granger in IOWA to FLORIDA .. 1800 miles in 2 days .

My trip home from Granger was only about 300 miles. But unfortunately those miles had nothing to do with getting my towing break in miles done.

I usually do an oil change at around 600-1000mi. on a new car/truck. Not really necessary by the manual, but can't hurt. Just in case there is some break-in debris circulating in the oil.

My two cents, over the years I have mandated that all equipment from Excavators to zero turn mowers be broken in slowly around the complex I own. It pays off to allow the gears to mesh, the parts to seat, seals to set. Early oil change, we have caught some sparklies more than once, good choice. Perfect example., 2020 I bought a new C8 Vette, low and behold the first 63 miles it popped a valve spring. I shut it down at once, saved the engine. If I had been pushing the revs etc at the time, motor would have been trashed. Car has been perfect since, but scared the crap out of me that day. Easy break in, is just a safe bet to play.

You should’ve sent v8 shiny bits into orbit. Would’ve been more fun

Pure luck, I was in my garage at idle when it popped. Shut down, and flat bed to the dealer. 3 weeks before they got new springs in. That was during the Covid mess, they had failed to heat treat them correctly. Lucky save
