When buying a new vehicle, I usually shop what is on dealers lots and negotiate from there. How does one go about ordering a custom truck?
- Is this something that has to be done at the dealerships?
- How similar is the "RAM build" internet site for available options compared to the dealer software?
- How are prices for ordered vehicles compared to the on the lot prices? I guess that would be usual not during these limited market times.
I ordered mine through a broker, but the broker had to work the deal through a dealership, as they didn't have the capability to deal directly with FCA. Given that, I am assuming it must somehow go through a dealership to get built.
Based purely upon the posts I've read here on the forum, there seem to be a few options or combinations of options that are available for dealers to select, but not offered on the ramtrucks site. The only option I had originally hoped for, that wasn't available at the time I ordered was the aux trailer camera. As I later found out, the timing actually worked in my favor, as it sounds like that would have been money wasted, and I now have the same capability thanks to Naviks.
When comparing the pricing I received against the advertised prices here in my area, it would look like I got a good deal. However, since none of the units that were available on the lots fit close enough to what I felt was mandatory, I never went to battle trying to negotiate beyond those advertised prices. I can assume I would have been able to negotiate a better deal for a unit sitting on a lot waiting to be sold, but can't back that up with actual facts.
When comparing pricing to units I found spread across the nation, I saw better deals advertised elsewhere, but the only one I ever found that matched my list of must-haves also had way more than I needed/wanted, so even after negotiating, would have still been much pricier than the unit I ordered myself.
