How to Decipher the DPF Gauge . I never hear my truck activate the standard cleaning cycle. When I purchased my 2020 RAM with the CUMMINS it activated on a regular basis.
"Is it just my imagination, running away with me?"

This is my understanding of how the system works based on research and my experience.
The Regen starts every xxxx miles or hours of operation. Does not matter what the DPF gauge reads. The system will also do additional Regens based on soot level needs. So if you drive a mix of highway and stop and go. The DPF gauge my never show a soot level. if you do a lot of stop and go mostly you should see the gauge register soot level.
The DPF gauge shows soot loading. If it lives at 0% your diving style is conducive to passive regen and the DPF stays clean.
If the gauge comes off of 0% then your driving style isn’t conducive to adequate passive regen. If the gauge gets to ~45% an active regen will start and the gauge will tell you it’s in an active regen.
If your gauge never gets to 45% then the truck will do an active regen every 24 hours of engine run time.

Anytime an active regeneration cycle is completed, the 24 engine hour timer resets, regardless of whether the cycle was initiated by time or by soot load.
Also:
When you scroll to the DPF gauge, if the truck is currently running an active regeneration cycle, in place of the gauge, you should see a message that says:
“Automatic exhaust system regeneration in progress”
That message should go away upon completion of the regen cycle, or if you put the truck in park and temporarily pause the regen cycle.
It’s important to note that there’s also an “intervention” message that will “pop-up” on the dashboard EVIC no matter what screen you’re looking at. It will also be accompanied by an audible chime or “ding” from the dash as well. When the intervention message pops up, it means you’re either not working the truck hard enough / long enough for the active regeneration cycle to be effective, or you have been repeatedly interrupting the regen cycle part way through by putting the truck in park repeatedly or shutting it off. The intervention message bears similar language to the regular regeneration message but it is not exactly the same. The message says:
“Automatic exhaust system regeneration in process continue driving”
When you see that message, it’s important to continue driving if possible and allow the cycle to finish. If you interrupt a regen cycle at any time, The regen cycle will pick up where you left off, but that’s not a recommended practice to rely on regularly.
