How does one order a tow hitch when spec'ing out a new order?

With the 1500 RAMs, one can order a Trailer Tow Group, or a Trailer Hitch and Trailer-Brake kit separately. However, when I use the NADA build site for 2022 2500 RAMs, there is no Trailer package, nor is there a separate Trailer Hitch and/or Trailer-Brake kit offered. There is a Trailer-Technology Group but it's just full of cameras, mirrors and other stuff I don't want. Am I missing something? Or do folks buy and install hitches and trailer-brake kits as aftermarket products?

It all comes standard on HD Rams except the Tradesman. Option for Trailer Brake Controller on base trim. Everything needed, hitch Class V, 4 pin and 7 pin, trailer brake controller and all wiring already installed on the truck.

Yup, the only option I had to check on my Tradesman was the "Trailer Brake Controller" and my truck has everything he listed above.

My 2019 tradesman came with the trailer brake controller, exhaust brake, and all towing equipment except the pre-installed GN/5th wheel system.

If your Tradesman came with it, it was an option or part of a package.

The only thing standard towing wise on a HD RAM without a higher trim, an individually selected option, or a package included option is the Class V (2.5") receiver with Class IV (2") sleeve, and the 7/4 pin wiring plug receptacles.

The trailer brake controller and tow mirrors are NOT STANDARD on Tradesman and must be optioned separate or as part of a package.

I 100% assumed that all CTD trucks had the brake controller as a standard piece of equipment.

Learned something new today.......

They should have them. It's an HD truck. It's purpose built for towing and hauling. It comes with a freakin Class V hitch for trucks sake. Towing mirrors and brake controller should absolutely be standard on every 2500 and 3500 built.

Stupid place to nickel and dime people. There's even been posts where people were so caught up in the buying process they didn't realize their truck didn't have them until they got home. Even the Cummins!

RAM: "Oh, here 'ya go here's a $9,400 Cummins option with 850 lb/ft of torque that can tow 19,000+ lbs."
Customer: "Cool! All the tow gear is there for that right?"
RAM: "Ahem. No. You have to pay extra for the mirrors and brake controller to do said towing".

Not everyone tows a real wide or super heavy trailer to need the fancy Mirrors and/or a brake controller.

Are they nice to have? Sure are!

Then you would not need an HD truck…. Any trailer over 3500lbs is required to have functioning brakes

Unless you have the trailer camera then you lose the 4 pin

Plenty of bro dozers and mall crawlers buying way more truck than they need. And a brake controller is a few wires away if a guy wants to have one functioning. . Don't think In your wildest dreams every trailer you see out there over 3500# has brakes on it and the ones that do probably have a dead battery on the auto apply.

Im not saying they all have it but legally they require it and the emergency brake is not what is important its the truck applied brakes…. Why they sell any truck without a brake controller is silly to me

I never tow more than my 3,000 lb boat. I need an HD for plowing. I've only used the brake controller once, when renting a dump trailer. That said, it should absolutely be standard, and I wouldn't buy an HD truck without it.

They do sell it, a guy just has to know to check the right box or make sure it is there before plunking down the money if that is what a guy wants on his unit. It is the tradesman, the economy unit. They make it as "less expensive" as possible so as to be able to advertise the "from" price. The controller and the mirrors come standard on the next trim level up(lone star) and beyond(even fancier units) where a $200-400 jump doesn't mean much as it is an $80k truck and up.

That trailer break away brake is pretty important if the trailer gets loose. Can't think it would be a good feeling to have your trailer pass you when you though you were towing it.

There are speed limits too but I've been passed by many that don't follow that law either.

If your trailer comes off it wont be passing you as the tongue is digging in to the ground thats for sure…. Also there are surge brakes where a controller is not needed but my point is the majority of HD owners buy them to haul heavy trailers ….. It must be an american thing to have a Lone star trim here its tradesman then bighorn…. And the people who buy diesels that dont need them are usually the ones that give us all a bad name as they “roll coal” and other stupid stuff unfortunately

Actually I think it is a Texas thing as I've seen the big horn stuff too. But here the LoneStar is the step up from tradesman from a Texas dealer.

Lonestar=Bighorn depending on location.

My 2018 tradesman 3500 came with the mirrors, hitch brake controller., yea it might have had an extra “ package” added but I haven’t seen an HD truck of any brand that doesn’t come with a hitch, even my base model Ford had the hitch mirrors and brake controller. My 2018 1500 has hitch and eclectic don’t think brake controller but never towed any thing bigger than golf cart trailer with it so
