I know some y'all pronounce diesel as (dē-zəl or dee-zuhl), and some of y'all pronounce diesel as (dē-səl or dee-suhl), but I pronounce it dee-sil.

Both of my parents' families are from the Appalachian mountains where many people speak in an accent known as "mountain talk." If you have never heard the Appalachian mountain talk accent, there is a short documentary on YouTube that gives a sample of the speech.

My first memory of hearing the word diesel is from my grandfather who was a lifelong trucker. In his honor, and in honor of my Appalachian heritage, I named my truck Dee Sil.

That's a great way to remember a loved one. What was your grandfather's name?

Very kewl! And who knew that "diesel" could be so literally complicated. :)
