Has anyone installed the “Power Bastards” High Output 320Amp Alternator? How do you like it? Is it truely 100% bolt-in, with no modifications needed in AlphaOBD or anything?

Unfortunately my 2019 Power Wagon came equipped with the single (180Amp?) alternator, so I’d like to upgrade it with one that produces a bit more juice!

Did some further research and found 2 additional options:

1) oem 220amp alternator, p/n 56029644AB, costs about $500 for a new unit, $400 or less for a reman unit. Looks to offer decent performance improvement over the 180amp and shouldn’t cause any issues since it’s an oem component. They said for pretty much the same price the 320Amp PB one is pretty tempting

2) mechman 370amp alternator. $700.

worth noting. I seems the OEM 220A Alternator and these aftermarket ones are “hairpin” style vs conventional “S-wound”, which makes them more efficient and able to produce more amps at lower RPM. The OEM 180 Amp appears to be conventional S-wound.

Follow up...I decided to get the OEM 220amp alternator

I managed to score a brand new one on eBay for under $100, and which made the decision easy.

Also, as long as my truck is under warranty I prefer to put on parts that are from the OEM parts bin so I won’t have to worry about the dealer seeing aftermarket parts and not wanting to do warranty work.

Reminder, you will need to turn on the alternator in the ECU after installing.

Can you clarify? My understanding was that it is a plug-and-play swap?

OEM 220amp NipponDenso hairpin installed. Pn 56029644AB. Plug and play on my 2019 Power Wagon 6.4

steps:
1. Disconnect battery (10mm)
2. Remove engine cover. Pull up on from, then side forward.
3. Remove serpentine belt. Put 3/8” square drive breaker bar into square hole on tensioner. Push clockwise until you have enough slack.
4. Disconnect alternator. Single plug (pull red lock back. Then squeeze connector and pull), plus 13mm nut over the main cable.
5. Remove 2x 15mm thru bolts holding the alternator to the bracket.
6. Loosen the 8mm thru bolts on the face of the alternator enough to loosen the alternators grip on the bracket(the alternator has press-fit sleeves that clamp the bracket when they are installed)
7. Remove alternator and install new one.
8. Reinstall the 15mm bolts, connect the alternator, put the serpentine belt back on, put the engine cover back on, reconnect battery
9. Start engine to verify everything is functioning and looks correct.

Thank you for sharing. My PW only came with the 180amp. This will be part of my dual battery setup.
