Thanks in advance. Long time Ram owner, first time potential HD owner. I have 2 trucks I'm looking at, both 2019 2500 6.4l hemi, laramie trim with the same options on both.

1 has the ram boxes ( which I really like) and the 4.10 gears with 100,000 miles, that's my concern.

The other has 3.73 gears no ram boxes, with 60,500 miles.

This will be my weekend truck, mainly hauling kids around and, towing my sxs and 4 wheelers up to Tennessee, possible toy hauler in the future. On my last couple 1500 rams, i only average around 8-10k miles per year. The higher mileage truck is about 8-10k less than the low mileage. I will have to pay to have it shipped to me but will still be several thousand cheaper after that. I read several post about high mileage 6.4. Just wanting some opinions on which one would be the better way to go.

Thanks for any assistance.

Tough call. While 100K isn't the end of the world it is the tipping point for gas truck value (IMO). But given that you don't drive it a lot that may not be an issue. My concern would be buying a used vehicle without getting eyes on it first, don't think I could ever do that.
The other caveat is the toy hauler option, depending on what size you go with you might be getting into diesel territory so keep that in mind as you make your decision.

Thank you for the comment, Yea the not seeing it in person is def a concern as well, the sales guy has been very understanding of that part if it, he went and got underneath it and took pics as I was concerned about rust, it looked free of rust from what I could see.and if I got a tow hauler it would be a smaller trailer trailer type. Figured the 4.10 gears might be better if I decided to go that route.

Except for the toy hauler part, the one with 60K is a better option. Especially since it will be mainly a grocery getter. As a previous poster said, I would want to see the truck and also having it inspected by a trusted mechanic. Regardless this is not a truck for a toy hauler of any size and certainly not one that is a fifth wheel.

I've owned both, and I definitely preferred the 4.10 gears. However, it sounds like 3.73 gears will be fine for your usage. I would prefer the lower miles

If either is gonna sit, then either will be a risk. Hemis like daily. So get the truck you like and will use the most for it's utility and enjoyment and it will last the longest. If you buy the truck to just sit for 5 days a week, then it will only be good for sitting.

I bought a 2020 Ram 2500 6.4 with 4.10s in April 2022 with 63K miles and now I have 75K miles on it.

I am putting about 8 to 9 k per year, and it will take until 2037 to be at 198K miles.

I think most auto since the late 1990s will make 200K miles.

It matters a lot how vehicles are maintained and how they are used. Long distance buying makes it tougher. Gas trucks can be used up by around 125 k miles depending on their history.
I would rather have a used diesel with 150 k miles than either of the trucks you are considering.

I just traded my 2018 2500 with the 6.4 and the 4.1 transmission. Had 119,000 miles on it. No issues at all. The only reason I traded it in was because someone else I work with got a new Ram...and I caught the "fever." It finally broke...but now so am I. lol. Seriously though, I had not one single issue and I towed a 21' bass boat nearly every weekend with it. All that being said, I agree with "ClawSS," get the one you'll use and not let sit.

Buying long distant really isn't a big deal but Id do a couple things first... Ask for the service inspection sheet, inquire about what warranty the dealer is offering- some are 3k/30 days which is helpful, check Carfax to see about maintenance and/or ask dealer for service history AND lastly, go in expecting to have to replace something at some point. This will give you a good understanding of the vehicle and is what I do regardless of the purchase location.
I would lean towards the 4.10 gears personally and negotiate down. Compare with other prices nationwide via Cargurus. Negotiate negotiate negotiate.

I would be more concerned about years in service and how the truck was stored when not driven then in the actual odometer.

My 07 5.7 hemi 1500 now has about 250,000. I bought it new. It still runs fine and I was still pulling my camper with it until about a year ago when I got the new 3500 6.4. I still drive the old one some. I hope the new one lasts as well.

I know this is a totally different truck and engine, but as can be seen from my signature I put nearly 300,000 miles on my 2004 Dakota (4.7L V8 gas) and the fellow who bought it in Feb 2022 says it still runs great. Of course I didn't tow with the truck and never failed with consistent oil change intervals.
