Does anyone use a pay per mile insurance on 2500/3500 trucks for non-commercial purposes?

Purpose: I'm in Washington State and would be using the HD truck for towing a TT for recreational purposes.

I've searched google and this forum without any results in the first 30 posts so forgive me if this has been answered previously.

I searched via google and got all kind of hits. some by the mile and others low milage discounts...

I'd never heard of such a thing either.

I do know my insurance carrier offers an option for a "leisure vehicle" that is driven less than 5000 miles per year. I took advantage of it for a while, but scheduling an appointment to bring each one in every year so they could verify the odometer was a PITA. I'd have to weigh the savings against the inconvenience factor at this point.

state farm and progressive have the dongles you put in your vehicle. the "safer" you drive, apparently there's a bigger discount.

To be honest i didn't even know that was a thing, i put about 25k-30k km (15k-19k miles) per year on my truck though lol

I thought it was something like that. That would be a lousy model for your use case.

Okay, closing this one out:

Looks like Nationwide and Allstate are options for my State. The good news for my use case, both are still less than paying traditional insurance. :)

Nationwide: $500 / Year increase
Allstate $150 / Year
