In my last Chevy truck, I had dual batteries from the factory with 1 alternator. In the ram HD 2500 Power wagon, I want to order the dual alternator set up at 380 amps. Does any one know if the dual alternator option comes with dual batteries?

If you are ordering a Cummins, then yes...Diesels have to have the dual batteries. (Which I just see you said Powerwagon)

A 6.4l probablyly does not, but I am not 100% sure. I do not believe it does.

Is there a reason for dual alternators without a second battery installed? Is there a defined space for the second battery?

The dual alternators are to help in snow plow aplications...the winch on Powerwagon...things of the such.

The dual batteries is solely for starting the Cummins.

Is there an area for it...yes, one would assume since it is the same engine bay...air cleaner on the 6.4l may be in the way.

Agreed, if you don't need the second battery for starting or some other specific reason then it's just dead weight sitting on the nose of the truck.

Yea.. no benefit to a second battery on the 392 HEMI. The dual alternators is definitely something you want to get if you are going to be using that winch alot.

And remember...always easier and cheaper to get an option with the truck than add it later.
