Harness for Aux2 Camera

I've recently installed a tow mode camera for my 2023 with DRVM and decided I'd love a second camera. While the DRVM is great while driving, it lacks an ideal angle for backing up. While the DRVM camera will pan down slightly, it is far from ideal. I'd love to have another view on the UConnect screen solely for backing up.

To accomplish this, it looks like I can buy the analog AUX camera from Ram but others have reported terrible video quality. Alternatively, it looks like you can build your own cable and leverage any analog camera. So, I have a couple questions for anyone who has done this?

1. Where is the best place to source the 12-pin harness? It looks like Ford sells a couple parts that will work (same connector as the Ram). I'm not sure which of these two parts (if either) is ideal?

2. Any recommendations on a specific camera to buy? Would like a good wide angle with reliable quality.

3. Lastly, I'm upgrading from a 2023 to 2025... I assume analogue cameras should be universally compatible with either?

Some of them don't have enough wires pinned in the 12-pin head so be careful.

Here's one that has two 6-pin headers. There's enough there to setup 2 AUX cams. I can get you the cross-matrix pin listing for the Ford vs Ram pinouts.

[wrong link removed]

Any decent analog camera will work with this using a mating Molex MX-150 series connectors and pins. I can dig up my list for those if needed.

I built mine from a 4-pin DIN camera connector to the 6-pin Molex and it works great (excepting the camera's shortcomings.)

I wouldn't recommend the camera I have, the vertical field of view advertised was a lie so because I need to see the hitch to hookup the boat, it's useless as a rearview cam and only partly useful as a backup cam.

Does this part, ending in -J include the 12-pin connector? It looks like it might be more of an extension without that plug? I now see you’ve mentioned a similar part ending in -F on an older post, maybe that’s the one needed? It’s pricier, > $200. Sound right?

Is this another option?

I'm sorry, I linked the wrong cable. That one does not have the 12-pin lead.

I'm not familiar with the harness you show above, though it appears to have 3 connectors, Camera, TPMS, and YAW. Ford mounts their trailer TPMS receiver remotely.

Give me a few minutes to put together some other info I found on the ford forums and post the results.

Realizing now I might not have the option on my new truck (a 25, expected in a week or two). I didn’t option for “Trailer Camera Wiring (No Camera) by Mopar”. I’ll PM you my build.

I thought I had it figured out, but can't validate all these part numbers. Ford is worse than RAM with the bad images, subs, component vs kit part numbers, etc.

Here's what I can say:
In 2020 I ordered HC3Z-14B242-F. It was $109. The e-tailer I ordered from site/domain no longer exists.
The label on the cable is HC3Z-14B242-BB
It had 7 pins populated in the 12-pin header. One of these is power (pin 1) shared on multiple headers. I have 4 pins in the 6-pin MX150 connected to an adapter cable I made to my 4-pin DIN camera. There are 4 pins in the 4-pin header I've not used.

The one shown on nichols would appear to be the newer cable that includes a 2-pin YAW header.

Info I found is that's probably Ford part number LC3Z-14B242-A

According to the source below, it would appear Ford part number MC3Z-14B242-A is the cable w/o YAW sensor header. I trust this part number the least, it always leads to either a jumper only or a 12-pin yaw cable/kit only.

There also appears to be a 23-24 Ford kit to add the 12-pin with part # PC3Z-15A416-A That's $150 and includes a 7-4 pin adapter and a 7/12pin bumper connector and the dock for the 12-pin head. This one looks really legit. If I was trying to put one together, this is what I'd order today.

There's also one w/o Yaw sensor (PC3Z-15A416-B) but the price is about the same and I assume you'd get more pins in the first one.

I cannot verify these below through any other sources I was able to find and Ford catalogs images are mostly crap/inaccurate.

Here's a link to a worksheet that has the pinouts I had at the time of build...

The deeper I dig on adding the camera, the more the plot thickens lol. I stumbled on what I believe is a older part number but it looks to include the 12-pin and is only $15.

Thoughts?

82215833AB is the old XFQ camera prep kit. It's only the 7/12-pin bumper plug and the wiring to the BCM/radio.

Have you looked at the Camera FAQ here? Lots of this info is already there.

Great info all around, and yes, I’ve been digging into that thread and others.

I’m debating if I might be better off going with a surround camera kit for not massively more $$ since I don’t have the camera prep but should be surround-ready… need to sleep on this! Appreciate your help and digging up all this info.

The camera prep is what puts the 12-pin at the bumper. The Limited trim USED to come with that defacto as part of the 360° surround and trailer prep. I didn't see trailer prep on your 2025 build (because it has ramboxes) so shortbed...

That said, Ram has been really sloppy with all these options. I don't know if the 2025 are going to come with 360° trailer surround with or without that prep kit...
