Hello first time diesel truck owner. Ram 2500 new truck, at around 1500 mi it started down shifting hard from 6 to 5. It does it when trans fluid temp at about 160 deg or more. It started doing it after towing for first time. Towed a fifth wheel for 250 mi with exhaust brake on. Per the manual I didn’t tow for the first 500 mi and I kept it under 50 mph. It’s at the dealership sitting for its turn and it sounds like they may do a relearn.

About to hit the road for a couple months and looking for some reassurance. Has this happened to others? How did it turn out??
Thanks!

Have never heard of that but without actually feeling it myself it's hard to say if it's "normal". ~170 is normal operating temps for the transmission. Exhaust brake on full will also make it feel like it is downshifting hard if you are not used to it? A relearn could fix it or the dealer may also come back and say it's normal?

Let us know how you make out.

.

Tow Haul and Full on EB will make downshifts very aggressive if you lift.

Please describe more about the conditions and terrain, etc. you're experiencing this shift.
