Hi everyone. I am new to HD RAM and as green as they come in regards to RAM Trucks. I recently retired and decided to upgrade from a 2006 Chevy 1500 that has served me well but is not up to the task of towing a 5th wheel (future purchase).

While searching for a heavy duty truck, I fell in love with the RAM 3500 Crew Cab Diesel DRW 4WD. There is one available at a decent price with low miles that I really like (desired color & options), but it has Lemon designation - FCA US LLC repurchased the truck pursuant to customer warranty laws due to 1. "Transmission issues because of cracked radiator", 2. Tires below spec, 3. Front brake pads and rotors below spec, 4. Recall 13A, 5. Recall ZB8. Per Disclosure Notice, repairs were: 1. Transmission, Radiator, & Thermostat were replaced, 2. Mount and balance all new tires, 3. Replace front brake pads and rotos (their type-o), 4. Replaced intake air grid heater relay, 5. Inspected tailgate latch alignment and tailgate strikers alignment. Additional repairs: 1. Replaced diesel pump, 2. Reprogrammed engine control module, 3. Inspect the intake air heater relay, 4. Reset the transmission control module quick learn, 5. Inspected intake air heater relay and vehicle engine hours. Note: new transmission comes with 12mo, unlimited mileage warranty.

Per Dealer: tech info on new transmission - Trans Order Code: DFX, Trans Type: 8sp 8HP75-LCV Automatic w/OD, Transfer Case Model: Electronic

Being (hopeful) a near-future owner, and hearing warnings about 2020-2023 manufacturing issues due to impacts on supplies from COVID pandemic, should I consider this truck seriously, and what should I look for during test drive. Or, should I avoid it altogether and look for a 2019 model?

Personally I’d keep looking, knowing it was a buy-back lemon would keep me up at night…. And obviously the dealer doesn’t know what they’re talking about as far as the trans goes, the 8HP75-LCV is the trans for the gas trucks…

Ditto

From what the repairs were I would have no issue buying that truck. Likely took so long to get the new trans someone lemoned it.
